this is a properly weird film like everybody has mentioned, I also watched it when I was like a kid in school and thought WTF, but I also thought it was quite like a porno and I enjoyed it for that.
Here's a movie I restlessly stumbled upon at 2 in the morning, and when it finished, I understood its designated time slot. Crash is ridiculous in every way. A destitute plot. Laughably outlandish. If the mannequins they chose to act in this film showed half as much emotion as they do skin, the audience may have an interrupted yawn or two. The movie spins its wheels as much as a movie about cars can. Summary: Undeveloped characters repeatedly crash cars and have disconnected sex in the wreckage.
I'd like to make a prequel to this movie where I shoot David Cronenberg in the head so the movie never gets made and the faggot critics don't jizz all over it and I don't waste money and time watching a bunch of pretentious puerile faggot nonsense bullshit.
@dcanmore If that's what the book is about, then I suppose I should thank the director of this garbage for keeping me disappointed for only an hour and a half as opposed to the time it would take to suffer its entire novel form.
@alfriendo2008 ... Found it! Cheers for that :) If you ever catch the BBC documentary Synth Britannia on YT it references Ballard (rare footage) and Anthony Burgess quite a lot on the influences of the early electronic bands of the late 70s. Dystopia rules! Also check out the two docs on Philip K Dick must see on YT.
@dcanmore Great, going to spend time checking out those vids. Fascinating studying the influences of the masters and their masters' masters! I recommend you viewing " JG Ballards dies vid " here on YT. Its short but highly engaging and you've got a bit of Amis jnr thrown in too + original version of "Crash" made in the early 70's. Happy viewing and thanks again for the info.
@themenaceanish yes u do have female cousins r u retarded. so ur saying out of everyone in ur family theres no girls. bullshit. i kno where u live can i come over
@90xboxfan Where do I live the fuckface? Even if you knew where I lived and you did come over I'd shoot you brains out with my revolver and then I'd feed you to my pet lion.
@Nanpiper the arousal people get from being in car crashes. It's a movie about being sexual empowered with a force in nature that you can control. Destruction!
Another Cronenberg classic! Controversial, intelligent, and Howard Shores icy score! The final scene has to be one of the most disturbing in cinematic history. A brave movie that is not afraid to examine the dark recesses of human nature.
@Peaceandlove787 wow how dumb can you get? like u didnt even consider the possibility that maybe movies can have the same name, and that u rented the wrong one? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! fail
@brindyboo True Story, I worked in a video store and I actually cleared that one up. We had Crash on VHS and Crash (The Bullock one) on DVD. No one could ever find Crash on DVD (That's the James Spader one here), and needless to say, I cleared the discrepancy. But still, it was pretty awesome to figure that all out.
Our teacher told us we had to watch this for class so I rented it. I don't get how this movie is about racism in people's lives at all. I reported her to my principal for making us watch this sick movie for a unit on racial tolerance!
@Peaceandlove787 you idiot, this is the wrong version!! you want the Sandra Bullock version which covers racism and bigotry in LA. same name, different movie!!
Wow, in that case you're looking for the American cliche movie about racism "Crash" released in the 2000s. Not a very smart move on your part, I do feel sorry about your teacher and hope this is a shoutout to the rest of your entourage.
@Peaceandlove787 THEY SOULD REPORT YOU FOR BEING DUMB and stupid... u had 3 movies with this title... think... first.. report with no reason later... the poor teacher probably loose his job cause you are stupid and not able to read the dvd cover
looking how trashy this trailer looks, and seeing how the movie is really, I can only say one thing (and hope someone get it): cronenberg is what shitty tarantino dreams to be, in his most hallucinatory wet dreams.
@M80sgirl by the first 30 or so minutes of the film, it'll be easy to judge if you're into it or not-- everyone has their own opinion and blah blah
it's about how these characters are so numb that they need to experience being in a car crash to feel anything and use sex as a release (there's some gay action in this film too).
this has to cronenberg's most confusing film. not confusing as in plot (car fetishers ) but in terms of liking it or not. lol. i have never met anyone who enjoyed this filom but i certainly do like it. it's very well exectuted but it's just so harsh and so true that it's hard to see as real. i like it but i can see why a vast majority don't.
it's a 1996 film but it looks and sounds more like a 1986 film, those silly Canadians with their obsolete technology (I'm poking fun at myself Lol I'm Canadian from Toronto)

The Fly is the only movie of his that I like. Probably because it benefits from Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis' magnificent performances. Ditto Howard Shore's score.
@Silverwire100 The real reason someone with your taste only liked "The Fly" is, while still excellent, probably because it's the closest Cronenberg has ever come to "selling out"...and "amateur"?!? You're right, you'd be much better off steering clear (no pun intended) of Cronenberg altogether and just stick with stuff made by Michael Bay or Brett Ratner...and who could ever get enough of John Williams? LOL
The Fly is his most "commercial" (whatever that means) work, but that doesn't mean it can't be his best. I've seen all of Cronenberg's films (including his early work like SHIVERS, THE BROOD, and SCANNERS) and I think some of the ideas presented, but the overall implementation of film elements and mise-en-scene seems shoddy to me... like someone trying to impress beyond their means. The cinematography is usually poor as well.
I think I have a pretty good taste in film. My favorite directors are Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Nicholas Ray, and James Whale. Followed by Stanley Kubrick, Sidney Lumet, F.W. Murnau, Rene Clement, Ernst Lubitsch, Fritz Lang, and Billy Wilder.
At 13 years old, I read the book for James Spader. Never finished reading it but now I have to see the movie. After that I'll see the other Crash with Matt Dillon
As a teen i just watched it for the erotic themes, but as I watched it again all together like a movie it is very well done, disturbing but intriguing at the same time.

this film looks boring but i think james spader is one of my all time favourite actors he's amazing at what he does. especially in the watcher that is definately my favourite james spader film along with stargate and super nova.
I was telling my sister and her boyfriend I was looking for a copy of Crash and they were like "we were just talking about that movie" I just laughed and said "not that Crash!"
Personlly i like david cronberg as a director...loved naked lunch. But i don't really get this movie or how people can get turned on from being in an car accident?
j g ballard wrote the book as like an over the top extension of the 'love' men feel for their cars- you know, calling it a she and their baby and loving it and what not... like he noticed these things and thought it was ridiculous, so he took it further.
I'm a girl, so no giving fellatio to a guy as I wear regular underweaer is not a kinky fetiche, u r probably 12 or a virgin or just a plain old dumbass.
i don't know what 12 year old would like David Cronberg. I'm 15 though and love all his movies and especially the scores... Howard shore, so creepy and wonderful.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this movie is such shit its half porno and half unintelligible garbage that makes no fucking sense at all. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! GET YOUR PORN ON THE INTERNET!
No...it's a lot more fun to go to the movies and see some guy jerking off to it and laugh at him than jacking off in your own home...I know this movie was made in '96 so I can't see it in the theaters but still
my friend keep tellin' me 'bout this movie for years. yesterday, July 12, 2009 i've just found the DVD at the local store. haven't watched it....but after watching the trailer here......damned......this is a sexy shit i must say!!!
I have been in a few car wrecks and there is an orgasmic feel to it. Like when you have really great sex and you cum really hard and your body shakes. Some of you will no what I am talking about...
@HCBSUCKS WTF??? I've been in an accident car, well I was in a bus whose tire exploded and lose control and I was too fucking scared to get horny, all in my mind was "oh god please don't let me die!!!"
@pervychika666 Yeah I did NOT get horny either but there is a similarity. Think about it. Have you ever had a really hard great feeling orgasm? It rocks your world like a car crash! LOL No I understand what your saying. I dont get hard over a car crash but some people apparently do...
The actual soundtrack (what you hear at 01:07, the rest of the music in this trailer has no connection to the movie) was composed, orchestrated, conducted and produced by Howard Shore.
Good call. Howard Shore is amazing. I bought the soundtrack (and t-shirt & poster) when the movie came out, and it's essential to the film. WTF is this NIN knockoff shit?!
The thing I like about this movie is that violent and bizarre fetishes are usually depicted in a film as being had by semi-deranged freaks who could never, even in a superficial way, be accepted into society. But in this movie, violent and bizarre fetishes are had by doctors, film makers, and otherwise respectable, upright, well-educated professional types who have somehow become so numb they need to be in car crashes to feel anything. I fucking love it!!!!
@regularperson46 I agree with most of what you say, except about the "numb" part. The reason the characters in Crash become aroused when witnessing and participating in auto accidents is not because of a "feeling pain is better than feeling nothing" cutting club mentality, but rather because human beings have subconsiously emulated the concept of sexual intercourse into auto collisions. Ballard himself explains it better. Watch a videoon youtube called: Crash! (1971) Part 1 of 2 and then part 2
this film is ABSOLUTE SHIT!

Personlly i like david cronberg as a director...loved naked lunch. But i don't really get this movie or how people can get turned on from being in an car accident?
goodvibesallround 2 years ago
j g ballard wrote the book as like an over the top extension of the 'love' men feel for their cars- you know, calling it a she and their baby and loving it and what not... like he noticed these things and thought it was ridiculous, so he took it further.
i agree though, naked luch was amazing

Did you read the book?
HowitzerDavidson 2 years ago 3
No...it's a lot more fun to go to the movies and see some guy jerking off to it and laugh at him than jacking off in your own home...I know this movie was made in '96 so I can't see it in the theaters but still

I have been in a few car wrecks and there is an orgasmic feel to it. Like when you have really great sex and you cum really hard and your body shakes. Some of you will no what I am talking about...
HCBSUCKS 2 years ago
a rush on the moment of impact or aferwards like the sedated feeling you get after
morgs2020 2 years ago
@HCBSUCKS WTF??? I've been in an accident car, well I was in a bus whose tire exploded and lose control and I was too fucking scared to get horny, all in my mind was "oh god please don't let me die!!!"
pervychika666 1 year ago
@pervychika666 Yeah I did NOT get horny either but there is a similarity. Think about it. Have you ever had a really hard great feeling orgasm? It rocks your world like a car crash! LOL No I understand what your saying. I dont get hard over a car crash but some people apparently do...

does anybody know who did the soundtrack? it's so sexy.
notevenhere 2 years ago
Notevenhere,
The actual soundtrack (what you hear at 01:07, the rest of the music in this trailer has no connection to the movie) was composed, orchestrated, conducted and produced by Howard Shore.
Found mine at Ebay for $5.
HowitzerDavidson 2 years ago 2

@regularperson46
fair enough
ttimothymurphy 1 year ago
@regularperson46 I agree with most of what you say, except about the "numb" part. The reason the characters in Crash become aroused when witnessing and participating in auto accidents is not because of a "feeling pain is better than feeling nothing" cutting club mentality, but rather because human beings have subconsiously emulated the concept of sexual intercourse into auto collisions. Ballard himself explains it better. Watch a videoon youtube called: Crash! (1971) Part 1 of 2 and then part 2
