Graduating from Pitt this semester... sorry to say that this will be what I remember most about my time there. Not only does this event define my time spent at Pitt, but it's made me lose all trust and respect for cops until they prove to me they deserve it (and just having a badge isn't enough). The violence wasn't even 25% as bad as the Super Bowl 40 madness, and the cops responded with 20x as much force. THE ONLY AUTHORITY OF THE POLICE RESTS ON THE ABUSE THEY CAN THREATEN AND INFLICT.

There are a few other conventions that the cities that every one should shown up at city hall and told them NO not only NO BUT HELL NO. they are democrat national convention republic national convention. Pus any conventions that in the past had riots. Your town does not need the hate that is left behind.

The assumption that they should have expected this to happen is silly and also implies that they were protesting to begin with. 1st amendment gives the right to peacefully assemble, not to riot and block the streets and refuse to disperse when the chief of police orders you to do so. Also, I don't believe throwing the gas canisters or whatever back at the police can be considered peaceful.

Graduating from Pitt this semester... sorry to say that this will be what I remember most about my time there. Not only does this event define my time spent at Pitt, but it's made me lose all trust and respect for cops until they prove to me they deserve it (and just having a badge isn't enough). The violence wasn't even 25% as bad as the Super Bowl 40 madness, and the cops responded with 20x as much force. THE ONLY AUTHORITY OF THE POLICE RESTS ON THE ABUSE THEY CAN THREATEN AND INFLICT.

Basically I think that if you say the cops are unjust and the civilians are always right, they are not always right. I understand you may feel like being mistreated at the time however that is just the common human response as humans cannot talk criticism very well. When I stopped on the pedestrian bridge since my street (where I LIVED) was on fire. The student cafeteria (nearby) locked us out. The bridge was our only shelter. Police brigades at the top and bottom of the stairs fired simultaneously on us. I considering jumping 20 feet below onto concrete, that's how bad it was.
