To be honest i dont understand the big deal; yes the sub was the original but think about this; the japanese VAs get to act while the anime is being animated and they can do whatever they want with it but the english dub actors get the already animated portion and have to dub it over perfectly without any mistakes and they do try their best so think about that for once

It has some quality... the rivalry between L and Light, Kira's evil level and the concept of the death note, not to mention the quality of the drawings (and the animation).

But I won't say I'm a DN fan. Actually, the only thing I liked was L character. He may had a bizarre appearance and attitude... he was still the most well balanced and normal (and likable) character of the entire show (the only one in fact).

DN was way too sexist as well !

I thought I would hate the show after L died, but the entrapment scenario and fascist theme of the 3rd arc was genius, about the only thing that bothered me about it was Mellow, he kills Near's whole team and then just walks in there like everything is okay to drop Near the intel, that was bullshit, and then at the end near is going on about how mellow was such a great guy, that's just ridiculous.

L's death wasnt important. the whole point of the series is to prove that 1 person can not be god or all powerful or invisible or (you get the idea) and his own ego will destroy him. L was just a bad ass character that died in the show but had no real purpose towards the moral of the story. id say this pretty well sums up what the story was trying to say and would have saved me many hours of my life.

Actually, it was. Since L was a major factor in the plot, because he is the main antagonist, his death was very important to Light's downfall. Had L not died, we never would have been introduced to Near or Mello, and the story would have gone nowhere. All it would be is just Light trying to avoid being caught, and it would never end. If L did not die, Light could have lost way too easily, and that is very anti-climactic don't you think? As much as I hate to say it, L had to die.
