Dirk is the best Euro player in the NBA today, and probably the best Euro NBAer ever. No arguing that Kukoc was a great player and one of the best swingmen in the NBA, though. Petrovic was amazing, but had his career cut far too short, like Magic Johnson.
Michael Jordan said it right...this question whos the greatest player of all time can't be answered...it should be what TEAM is the greatest of all time? These guys are all great, and saying that one is better than the other is just unethical.
Sorry everyone for the long posts, I was just explaining to a ex-compatriot from neighbouring Croatia why the Yugoslavia and its basketball were as successful as they were, and why it will never again be so. FYI, I believe our strength lay in the incredible teamwork. If you look at some really tall players like Kukoc, Divac, Paspalj, even Bodiroga who was a guard (yes, not all the best play in the NBA), their passing ability was just amazing. Also, team defence was paramount (similar to Celtics)
@chetnikman You forgot the best player ever to come out of Yugoslavia. Kresimir Cosic. Divac, Kukoc, Petrovic all credit much of their success to Kreso. Check out the record. Cosic is the best ever to come out of Yugoslavia. He was drafted three times, but the Lakers, Celtics and Blazers, but he chose to go back to Europe and play and coach. 45,000 came to his funeral in 1995 in Zadar. You need to look past the past 5 years when you talk about "Yugo Dream Team".

MJ,Scottie,Toni K,Worm,BJ,Pax,Ron H, Cartwright,Stevie K,....Of course, Coach Phil you just can't get better than this team!! My God, I miss this team every day !!
please don't put hedo and toni in the same sentance! and.. toni was way better than sabonis.. just look at the numbres. no european player can't even compare to him, number of titles. 3 nba, 3fiba,2euro,1 world cup, 2 olympic silver, 3 yugo, 1 italian cship. he won everything that could be won!
@slija Good records, but compare with this: Olympics: 1 gold, 2 silver as a player and 1 Silver as a Coach; World Championships,2 gold, 2 silver; Euro: 3 gold, 3 silver 1 bronze; 2 time All-American; BB Hall of Fame; FIBA Hall of Fame; only player to be EuroBasketball player of the year twice;named by EuroLeage best player from Croatia, ahead of (in order) Petrovic, Rada, then Kukoc; WHO, you ask is this Wonder Man? Kresimir Cosic of Zadar Yugolavia. LOOK IT UP :-).
best young world player in 87, best european player 90, 91, 93, 96, 98. European final four MVP 89,90,91,93, european championship mvp 91, world championship MVP 90, NBA best sixth man 96.... he dominated over Payton, Majerle, Gettling, Mourning, k. anderson, d. 4 times yugoslavien champion, two yugoslavien cups, 1 time italian champion, two italien cups, 3 times NBA champion, 3 times european champion. Two Olympic silver medals (88,92), 2 european championships gold medals 89,91 and two bronze 87, 95. One world championship gold 90, and one bronze 94.
Giorgerman, do not forget about Dražen Petrović... He was something else... Even Goran Ivanisevic, when he won Wibledon spoked about greeatness of D.P.
yes you are right...I am sorry, Yugoslavia had the best players at that time...But I must also include Sabonis and Marculionis...They were very good as well
I'm looking at 3:49. did what I think happen really happen? Did he really throw an alley-oop all the way from the free throw line on the opposite end of the court?
People who have not seen Tony play in Jugoplastica dont realy know how great he realy was. He could dominate game without scoring a single point! Man he would play center in the first half geting 10 rbs and 5-10 blks then he would play point guard in the second half getting 15 ast 5 stl with a few monster duncks and loooooong three pointers. I mean when he was 22 , he already had 3 consecutive euroleague titles, 2 olympic medals, 3 european championship titles, world championship......
To me Toni Kukoc is by far the best European player in history of the game. When it comes to offense, this guy is the most versatile player ever... Passing, quickness, shooting, dribbling, court vision... and he was 2.11m tall. He and the incredible Magic were the only ones who actually played at all five positions, and with great success!
He dominated European and World basketball with Jugoplastika and his national team, and then was the best sixth man in the best team of the NBA!
My favorite European player of all time. I still remember how excited I was when I first heard that he was going to play w/ the bulls. I even remember the Rockets played on the same day that Kukoc first played for the Bulls and made the game winning shot.
i agree whit the most said here, T. Kukoc and D. Petrovic are two of three best non american basketball players ever, but you never metioned the third one: Kreso Cosic..
Well that was what I was saying. He was one of the best shooters in the NBA at his time, was even proclaimed the best "6th player" and I don't think he was even nominated. That was shameful.
Not because of what? I say again...he was one of the best shooters and one of the best players in what many consider the best NBA team of all times and he never even got a nomination. Come on...
Kukoc is by far the greatest player to come out of Europe next to Sabonis and Petrovic. You cannot doubt his three NBA championships as well as being a multi-medalist in the Olympics, FIBA, and Eurobasket.
lol if mighty Jordan said that kukoc was the best that came out of Europe than we all have to bow I mean he was allways in the starting 5 whit the bulls when they ruleed for 5/6 years so enough said.......And lets not forget another Croatian that played in the NBA the one the only Drazen Petrovic (hall of fame)
I don't think he's better than Sabonis or Dirk. Though, he is better and can do more than Gasol. Aside from getting rebounds and scoring in the paint, he could also bring the ball up and create his own shot off the dribble.
TK had a game ! no wonder they called him tha waiter ! he sure served them up.i know jerry krause loved him and i can see why. Phil used to get all over him. If phil had to guard him Tk would have kicked his ass. I loved watching TK !!!
no I am not forgetting about those you mentioned. I sill think Kukoc is better than them. not to mention Kukoc is a 3x champion + a silver medal in the 1992 olympics
haczu86: you are making him sound like he wasn't as good a player as he was (at least in Chicago). regardless if he had MJ or Pip. actually its the opposite, MJ & Pip had Kukoc
tony was a victim of race..jordan could shoot the ball 400 times for 30 points and was the best ever?..lol..when tony came (awesome player)..pippen felt rejected cuz he had always been in jordans shadow and felt he should be the leader..tony had it bad!!! google it!
Kukoč WAS NOT a sixth man in the bulls he was "the big three"along with Jordan and Pippen, personally I think he was better than pippen,(you could clearly see that when MJ retired for 2 years)furthermore there was a" split" between white and black playes in the bulls than, pippen led blacks and kukoč whites(which is sad really) but it was pippen who "inspired"this clash wanting to be like MJ(remember the last ball in the semis vs knicks)
To be 7"0' and do the things Toni does is unbelievable. Just a very talented and gift player. Could do anything on the court n pretty much play every position.
@VeoShock hey wassup!! Sorry but kukoc was not a 7"0............ He was a 6"10 (2.08m). On the other hand, I totally agree with you.Kukoc , the best croatian basketball player ever!!!
My favorite sixth man of all time and only weakness was playing on a team with Michael Jordan. Along with Scottie Pippen, the average fan will never know just how great the third scorer of the Bulls was.
Great job with this vid. With all the media attention that Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman commanded, Kukoc really was the unsung hero of Chicago's second 3-peat. Excellent basketball player.

KeltAndy 2 years ago
The biggest shame was that he was never invited to the All-Stars game. Only because he was not an American...
retardinho 2 years ago 4
retardinho,it was not because of that.
Detlef Schrempf and lots of other non-americans did play in the all-star game.
It was Public Votes that decided who is popular to play in all-star game.
bborntoofly7 2 years ago
Well that was what I was saying. He was one of the best shooters in the NBA at his time, was even proclaimed the best "6th player" and I don't think he was even nominated. That was shameful.
retardinho 2 years ago
Not because of what? I say again...he was one of the best shooters and one of the best players in what many consider the best NBA team of all times and he never even got a nomination. Come on...

did you see the 3/4 court alley oop at the end! never saw that one. kukoc came up big in that indiana game 7

Kukoc is by far the greatest player to come out of Europe next to Sabonis and Petrovic. You cannot doubt his three NBA championships as well as being a multi-medalist in the Olympics, FIBA, and Eurobasket.

How 'bout Nowitzki?
Auto0725 2 years ago
lol if mighty Jordan said that kukoc was the best that came out of Europe than we all have to bow I mean he was allways in the starting 5 whit the bulls when they ruleed for 5/6 years so enough said.......And lets not forget another Croatian that played in the NBA the one the only Drazen Petrovic (hall of fame)
Marach22 2 years ago 4
I don't think he's better than Sabonis or Dirk. Though, he is better and can do more than Gasol. Aside from getting rebounds and scoring in the paint, he could also bring the ball up and create his own shot off the dribble.

Nowitzki and Gasol are both much better than Kukoc never was. Kukoc never played an all-star game. Sabonis was better than kukoc too.

he was lucky to get into a team with MJ and Pip thats why hes got those titles

haczu86: you are making him sound like he wasn't as good a player as he was (at least in Chicago). regardless if he had MJ or Pip. actually its the opposite, MJ & Pip had Kukoc

jaxjay73 2 years ago
tony was a victim of race..jordan could shoot the ball 400 times for 30 points and was the best ever?..lol..when tony came (awesome player)..pippen felt rejected cuz he had always been in jordans shadow and felt he should be the leader..tony had it bad!!! google it!

Andres Nocioni reminds me of him. sixth man, just comes into the game and does wat he does. and does it good.
mahogan 3 years ago
Kukoč WAS NOT a sixth man in the bulls he was "the big three"along with Jordan and Pippen, personally I think he was better than pippen,(you could clearly see that when MJ retired for 2 years)furthermore there was a" split" between white and black playes in the bulls than, pippen led blacks and kukoč whites(which is sad really) but it was pippen who "inspired"this clash wanting to be like MJ(remember the last ball in the semis vs knicks)
mislav76 2 years ago 3
yes he was part of the big three but talking position wise, he was listed as sixth man.

To be 7"0' and do the things Toni does is unbelievable. Just a very talented and gift player. Could do anything on the court n pretty much play every position.
VeoShock 3 years ago 4
@VeoShock hey wassup!! Sorry but kukoc was not a 7"0............ He was a 6"10 (2.08m). On the other hand, I totally agree with you.Kukoc , the best croatian basketball player ever!!!

@zelubasket How bout Drazen Petrovic???
Slamwoo93 1 year ago
My favorite sixth man of all time and only weakness was playing on a team with Michael Jordan. Along with Scottie Pippen, the average fan will never know just how great the third scorer of the Bulls was.
MJSSIX 3 years ago 6
I think he is the best european player of all time
ok he's never won the mvp award, but who will in a team with jordan? :-)
nowitzki did, but kukoc got the whole package, he could play point guard
ManuelKobe 3 years ago 7
hmmm..do u know who is Drazen Petrovic?
crato666 3 years ago
yes of course!
the first european star in the nba, deadly shooter and the emotional leader for his team.
died wayyyyyy to early!! R.I.P.
petrovic was a scorer, but I think Kukoc had more allround skills
ManuelKobe 3 years ago 4
Great job with this vid. With all the media attention that Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman commanded, Kukoc really was the unsung hero of Chicago's second 3-peat. Excellent basketball player.
