we had a huge b ball court @ my grade school, and kids from other schools would hold break offs there. freakin cardboard mats...memories. kangols addias running suits w the white stripe down the pants leg, and tounges of stan smiths standin straight up. but we didnt have no damn saggin pants, thank God.
I could swear this song was on the original Breakin' (not "Breakdance") LP soundtrack. I had it, and I think either at the end of Side 1 or Side 2 (I really think it was at the end of Side 1) was "Tour de France" by 10 Speed (I remember it was written as "Tenspeed"). I can't find any reference on the Internet as to this mystery, why it's not listed on any existing LP's of the Breakin' soundtrack. I KNOW I had it on that record of mine, I'm not crazy; can someone back me up on this?
Beautiful song. Thank you Discocaine for the information about Kraftwerk not letting their song appear on the movie sountrack. I would've said that it was the same. Thank you very much.

krafwerk's member names are credited on the label as writers because that's the law. they wrote the original. it is a cover version done by john driscoll under the alias 10 speed. seems it was done for the k-tel comp and then released as a single on his home label? the guy did a lot of productions on quality back then.

Classic...I knew 10-Speed made this (from when I had it on the K-Tel Records breakdance album, but they I seen that Kraftwerk had a version, too...who's joint is the original???
@spyguybuy I think the 10-Speed version was gear'd more towards the B-boys & B-girls that was breakin' 'n poppin' back in the early 80s!!! I first got hold of this song on K-Tel International's "How To Breakdance" album featuring Us Girls (from the movie Beat Street), 'n the New York City Breakers (who wore the red colors in Beat Street)!!!
@spyguybuy I didn't say this version was in the movie Breakin'!!! I said this song was included on K-Tel International Records "Breakdance" album back in the early 80s!!! Regardless if it was Kraftwerk or not...the song is forever hottt!!! I kno' Kraftwerk made the original...them brothaz was bad...but this cover version is nice, too!!!
I feel you on that ... I am 43 now and it makes me feel like I am a youngster with my sony walkman on looking in the mirror perfecting my popping moves late at night...Say word , love the oldschool !!!
LOL...you took me back with that. I just turned 40 and I remember poppin in the mirror too to perfect my signature move that a good friend bragged on;GREAT MEMORIES....I still have this LP(the 12")
wow! power 96 and WEDR, Miami, Ft Lauderdale... now that brings back memories... anyone who rgew up down there knows those old radio stations, tyhey were the shit!
Yup...that's when I first heard this...off that K-Tel Breakdance album wit' the New York City Breakers 'n Us Girls (from Beat Street movie) on the B-side!!!
10 speed is kraftwerk, the track was originally commissioned by the organization that sponsored the tour de france bicycle race at the time... the movie "breakin'" gave it it's urban fame... almost all early breakdance music was electronic music from europe & had been mainly inspired by "kraftwerk, these stiff white boys makin' funky music" as afrika bambaataa said...
kraftwerk's album "computer world" (1981) which has been sampled & has been used by so many dj's especially the track "numbers", revolutionized the electronic sound back then aswell as today... one of many dope songs that came from the early breakdance movement... older albums are just as dope... they are pioneers of electronic music...
ive got breakin plus its on you tube, you can clearly hear that it is not this version on the film, also the original kraftwerk 7inch says on the sleeve featured in breakin. so why make up lies i hear it says this on wikipedia too, listin to the clip and see.
Wikipedia is useless AS MCDONALDS NUTRITION!! cant rely on ANY freakin thing it says, but I have several copies of the Kraftwerk 12" but took me nearly 20 years to find the 7" of TDF which IS the version on Breakin', I like that version more, because the 12" is a little TOO extended with repeating bars, the 7" has ALL the "action" in it with the breathing and synthesizers including the "zap breakdown" toward the end of the record. But being a DJ, I also own the 12" of the 10 speed version.
10 speed version IS a piece of history, (even though not as good as Kraftwerk) Its funny 'cuz I was SOOO Excited when a former friend of mine said he has TDF and when he played it, it was from that K-tel album and was 10 speed version and I was like "WTF IS THIS???!! when all the TRUE DJ's and underground audience knew the Kraftwerk version was more popular!! Speakin of remade tracks on wax, remember this one LP I was looking for "Rockit", ever hear the one from BT City Slickers? LMAO,,SH*T!!!
this is a cover version, not by kraftwerk it was on a k-tel lp around 1983, at the time the chart albums like the NOW series had bands playing the hit single, but not the original artist. some how this version has made one of my all time favorite tracks sound like its been mixed with supermarket music.
Actually I think Kraftwerk DID this one but used the name 10 speed, if you look in the credits on this 12" they have the original band members names listed
NO SORRY IM WRONG, THIS ISNT Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk's version of the 7" was played in the movie Breakin' 10 Speeds version of TDF was NOT played in the movie
why would anyone say that this version is on breakin, its crazy. i thought i was alone on this one, these fools obviously arn't into kraftwerk that much
I went looking for this song...found the Kraftwerk original, and thought...that's not what I remember playing 1,000 times...this is what the one that I had as a bicycle crazed 14 yr old.
I remember the 10 version. I have that back somewhere in Detroit. This was on the Break movie album. For some odd reason they could not use the Kraftwerk version like the did in the movie.
Wasn't even that odd of a reason actually - Kraftwerk allegedly just wouldn't let them use it, end of story. Apart from the slightly funkier bass line, I can't say I care much for the cover version (having been brought up on the Kraftwerk original), though they did quite well with the drum programming and the harp arpeggio, I would've struggled with these.
Team easy on!

I have the LP record of "Breakdance" (10 speed version)", and the Kraftwork 12inch record as well.
I also have the Breakdance 1 and 2 LPs, and this is NOT on it.
I have the Breakdance 1 and 2 DVDs, and in the credits it says "Tour De France performed by Kraftwork".
