ok i have an epiphone g 400, and my style is usually hard rock, so i was wondering if these pickups would be better than the stock ones and if so how much better?
True...but then again, how much of a "true tone test" are you going to get through a youtube vid? This is only to give you an idea. This can't replace finding one at a shop and test driving it. (Even with a tube amp on the vid...that stuff isn't conveyed very well once compression is pushed into a video like this. Peace Out...)
I just put one of these in the birdge of my g-400 custom, and but whenever I have it selected my other pickups (i have 3 humbuckers) sound all hollow and muffled, has anyone else had this problem?
They're dark sounding pickups. You can try a 1meg pot but you'll lose any volume control. The best config I found for them was to use a coil split which brightens the tone up a bit. They're dark and thick...as requested by Iommi who probably uses a lot of treble and midrange on his amps.
@SentryNombre Back in the day he used to turn the treble and mids on his amp all the way up and his bass down to nothing. He also played most of the songs with the neck pickup, switching to the bridge for the solos. He also disconnected the tone control, used really long curly cords and used a treble booster. Its like half the time he was trying to make his sound as dark as possible and the other half trying to make it as bright as possible.
This doesn't surprise me at all. Those pickups really were made for him. For me I found them useful with a coil split for rhythms and full on for leads. I'll admit they weren't as dynamic or as useful in a live situation as some of Gibson's other pickups. Overall I'd say my favorite combination that I've tried was an Alnico 5 Burstbucker 1 in the Neck position (with a Burstbucker Pro as a second choice) with a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge. Straightforward rock tones.
Yes I did. I had them in a G-400 for a while too. Now I don't have them in any of my guitars at the moment. (The best pickup combo I found for that Epi was a Gibson BB1 in the Neck and a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge.)

These pickups aren't for everyone. I don't have any experience with the Epi G400 line or the Iommi sig. I would say that if it's sustain that's an issue, a better choice may be to go active with something like Seymour Duncan Blackouts.
Random wanking.....thanks for listening. The demo didn't turn out as well as I wanted it to...I was sort of the mind to just get as many tones as I could out of that one amp setting.
You suck ass...

@manbearpig937 MUCH BETTER
Epiphone pickups are pretty crappy compared to these, but I would recommend Gibson dirty fingers pickups, they are amazing.

@TheCapa612 well now im actually thinking about a seymour duncan invader in the bridge and a jazz in the neck

DEMOING GUITAR EQUIPMENT IS USELESS ON A SOLID-STATE AMP...WTF

@SentryNombre He's right though. You're not gonna get the true voice of a pickup through a solid state.

@SentryNombre That's also very true. You'll never get the same depth through a compressed file and your computer speakers.

@simboy1 they could be wired out of phase or something. check your wiring.
CyValkarion 1 year ago
@simboy1 They also breakup and have a natural fuzz sound so they're better suited for drop tunings

I'm amazed that so many people like these pickups.
I have the Iommi SG and the tone + sustain sucks in comparison to a normal epi G400 SG.
My dad has the same guitar, same problem.
Im actually replacing the Iommi pickups for the epi G400 pickups to see if it is a guitar issue or the pickups

haha nah sorry mate, the neck joint access in terms fret coverage on the Iommi SG is the best out there. I'll just have to tweak or replace the PUs
