This video's two years old but I thought I'd comment on it anyway. I've been a trumpet player for almost eight years but youtube has inspired me to pick up a guitar too. i have to admit, you're one of my big influences for picking up my guitar. when i was eight i was obsessed, but unfortunately 8 year olds aren't that good at self-teaching. ^^; It was around November that i became a nerdfighter, and only a week later i was listening to you sing/play nerdfighterlike. finally a month later i found ultimate-guitar(which shows you how to play chords as you go along) and i began to play my very old 3/4 guitar, Rusty.

so I watched this video 3 months ago, became inspired, said I'd buy a guitar and teach myself. Today I went out and got one for real! It's beautiful, but I don't know how to play anything. this comment is more so I can (hopefully) think back and be like "oh yes, that time I didn't know how to play, I remember. ..I think I even left a comment on Lauren's "buy a guitar video" " I'm nervous. I watched other videos to try and learn and I hold it the opposite way. any tips in general? thanks : )

congratulations on starting music... tip dont play really heavy picks till your right wrist is ready for it... nylon picks sound smoother then most other materials, and those celluloid fender picks not only crack... theyre flammable O.o not joking

I think it took me about a year and a half to actually feel comfortable with the way i play. I mean i guess i was alright.. I just didn't think so.

I've wanted to get a guitar since I started watching nerdfighter/wrock songs on youtube. I'm hoping to save up and buy one at the begining of summer to play after work. (I'm staying on campus doing research, so there aren't many people around. It'll be a way to pass time and I can wrock out since I won't be disturbing anyone.)

As a gamer I love some rock band & guitar hero and I recently got a real guitar how ever the games didn't inspire me to learn. Its something I have always wanted to do and the talented people he on youtube pushed me to get finally learn.

I actually just started teaching myself how to play the guitar a couple months ago. It was right after Terminus, actually. Terminus was the first HP con I went to, and after all the random lobby shows and the unplugged thing you guys did in the basement, I was like, "Gah I wanna do this, too!" and so I did.

i work at a music retail store... and since the release of guitar hero 2 and especially rock band the sales of beginning guitar, and bass packs as well as drumkits priced below $700 has increased by 62%... and some of these kids alreayd have some of the playing mechanics down already... im throughly impressed... and happy somthing is spurring musical intrest for people today...

Yeah, that's truth what you say about rocking on with a guitar in a couple of moths time. My brother's been self teaching, and he's became quite good, putting of my nerves during the process, but, at least, he's made it to be a bit of a musician.

I have noticed that, in the main, the guitar & uke singer/songwriters get much in the way of audience and feedback while straight instrumentalists get very little, if any, feedback.

Which I think is a shame. There is a lot of good music by aspiring musicians out there that in some ways is isolated from community.

I wonder if more people connect with the aspiring solo guitar singers like yourself, /because/ it is something they themselves feel they could pick up...
