I see nothing wrong with this and it adds to how square changes things up every game.

So much so that I played 12 twice.

It takes switching roles from final fantasy X-2, it also plays like dirge of cerberus because of the fact that you can't revisit any of the places that you've been (as far as i know), and it takes a sort of sphere grid like level up system which is kind of similar to final fantasy X

Talk to the townsfolk, learn some history, sleep at an inn, buy new armor and weapons from stores and just explore. The thing people don't really realize in Final Fantasy 13 though is that you are constantly on the run, and that is why it is all dungeons because you are constantly trying to get your way out. Yes they should have expanded on the dungeons so they wouldn't be so linear but meh
@shon009 the way I see it is that the fighting (and preparing for the fighting) is where the fun lies. In the past towns have provided shops, inns and such to help you prepare for the fights. FF13 still has shops and such, you just dont have to walk the uneventful distance to access them... this would be different if for example you had a town with a hidden shop somewhere, and finding the shop was a challenge itself (like the mirage village in FF5)

@ConsoleWarSucks there are only 2 towns from what i can remember playing, but they are really just for sight seeing until you progress with the main story line, other then that save points act as your store as they explain in the game that they are treated like online terminals and buying things online has become vastly more popular.

use libra on him, check out his weakness and use that element of magic on him. Try to chain bonus him using lightning and hope, Stagger him and switch to hope ravager, Lightning/fang Commando. And than pretty much just own him. Or you could keep up the Ravager Ravager Comando and have the stagger reach a higher percent dealing higher damamge and owning him. And you could max out your crystarium.

@ConsoleWarSucks there are only 2 towns from what i can remember playing, but they are really just for sight seeing until you progress with the main story line, other then that save points act as your store as they explain in the game that they are treated like online terminals and buying things online has become vastly more popular.

@DartUchiha True, but the 360 has something else. Exclusive avatar of Chocobo they fly all over your 360 screen kinda cool. Also 360 has a custom soundtrack lol i hated the battle theme :D so i switch something better. To be honest the soundtrack of the game sucked. IMO.

@Kage137 Some of the FFX music is good, but the battle theme got annoying by the time I got to the highroad after the tournament. I absolutely love the use of the violin in the FFXIII battle theme. I think that they worked too hard on the graphics.

FF13 battle theme was great at first again gets annoying really fast. Good thing 360 has a custom soundtrack Persona 4 battle theme and last remnant battle theme FTW lol.

mmmm i so iffy to get this game even to this day... I am a BIG final fantasy fan but.. urghhh. its soooo linear... the way they changed the game up doesn't seem fair.. there are THREE major things i love about final fantasy...
1.the story lines
2.the gameplay
3.The FREEDOM.
taking that away just changes everything. especially when ur not used to it... hmm
think ima jus get new copies of Final Fantasy X and X-2 and frame them on my wall. :)

i know u guys are saying that the lack of shops dont bother you but..well for people like me who have played all or most of previous final fantsy game, this one lacks the feeling you get for example in final fantsy XII when you enter a city with alot of money,searching in the shops for stronger weaponry and armor, or going to the guild to talk to people and accept quests,dont get me wrong i LOVE this game but still,i would've liked it to be a little more open world(im stuck with chapter 11 boss)

i would love this game but taken out the shops in the towns seems to make the game more linear an i loved the last one too u had more freedom but after watching a few of these vids u dont seem to get the same amount of freedom in this one.

You can jump around a little at a few points, but no.

use libra on him, check out his weakness and use that element of magic on him. Try to chain bonus him using lightning and hope, Stagger him and switch to hope ravager, Lightning/fang Commando. And than pretty much just own him. Or you could keep up the Ravager Ravager Comando and have the stagger reach a higher percent dealing higher damamge and owning him. And you could max out your crystarium.
