They started as such, but they coalesced into the Continental Army, as well as some irregular militias, many of which were state-based. It was a civil war that became an international war. And they have betrayed the US in ways that makes them (Israel) unsuitable to be the close ally that many pretend them to be. That brings me to a good point, gun ownership in the US is the right of citizens to protect themselves from violations of their rights. Hezbollah on the other hand violates the rights of average Lebanese because they have lots of weapons. You see if the government was not there to try to protect non-hezbollah members (as well as Hezbollah members) then it would be civil war, just as it was in the eighties. Hezbollah is not fighting power just like the Mafia, KKK, or a drug cartel.
