darth maul was a true sith who believed in the ideals of the order to destroy the jedi, dooku was barely a sith, he was simply so prideful and had no trust in the republic so he joined the seperatists. i think he simply viewed the dark side as a path to more power, but never truly embraced the sith order, vader was kind of the same, he loved the dark side for its power, but he never really wanted to be a sith, he only did it so palpatine could teach him to save padme, but it corrupted him

Darth Maul should've been the Darth Vader of this trilogy. Like Vader, Maul had a fairly small role in Episode 4. Imagine how diffrent the saga would be if Han Solo shot down Vader's tie-fighter and killed him at the end of episode 4. Darth Maul was the coolest thing about "Menace". He's a beast.

The "tone poems" and trailer for ep 1 gave us an awesome glimpse. Left me wanting more, much more! Then I saw the first movie and it was, well lacking everything the trailers promised. Today I watch those trailers and sigh. If only the movies were half as good as the trailers. If ONLY TPM was all it promised!

I think I was more excited about KOTOR and enjoyed KOTOR more than Episodes 1 or 2. I was more excited about 3 but still enjoyed KOTOR more. Darth Maul is the Sith equivilant to Master Windu! He is the most powerful fighter, so WHY THE HECK does he die in Phantom Menace? He should be a character that we knew had to die sometime, but that kept on wining over and, hunting Jedi, returning and returning. Just like Jango, it was a waste of a good character to kill him.
The Thing about Darth Maul is that underneath the coolness of his appearance and fighting abilities, is not that much. He was truly loyal to Sidious unlike Vader and Tyrannus. Sidious didn't care about him that much, he just wanted to use him to become Supreme Chancellor, he then saw Anakin as his worthy apprentice and successor but found Count Dooku corruptable and easy to manipulate.
Characters are all screwed up in the second trilogy.
Darth Maul had promise.. here's an idea, why not ditch the useless Count Dooku character and replace him with a more developed Darth Maul in eps 2 and 3?

In expanded universe fiction before the prequel trilogy was produced it was written that in the Clone Wars, the Jedi Knights fought the Mandalore Warriors. Given that in the original trilogy we never saw what Boba Fett looked like under his mask, he could have been any alien species, therefore in addition to the character of Jango Fett, Darth Maul COULD have been the Sith warlord battling the Jedi in all three movies

@ForOnlyEbay You may be correct, as the prequel universe back-stories have expanded beyond the films. My original point was that Darth Maul had an underutilized character arc and that Mr. Lucas could have described or visualized the Mandalorians as any species, such as the Zabraks.

@chassith I mean I totally agree with the fact that they should have done more with Darth Maul... But a sith joining the Mandalorians doesn't feel right to me, no matter how they would tell the story.

@chassith well General Grievous did have human parts so if you leave out the expanded universe stuff, Darth Maul could have been turned into as General Grievous as Anakin turned into Darth Vader.

Ya know i think what they should have done was have Darth Maul turned into General Grievous kinda like how Anakin turned into Darth Vader. It makes sense since Anakin and Maul were both mortally wounded so why not have both end up having to become part machine to survive

@mrlavabeast Totally agree. Darth Maul is a mean motherfucker who deserved to wreak havoc amongst the Jedi and republic abroad. The Phantom Menace had phenomenal potential but was completely wasted with Jar Jar Binks and the Gangan shit when the film could have been more about the dark side of the force, and death. Killing Jedi would have been better.

Darth Maul was killed off way too soon. Imagine if he became powerful enough to learn to shoot electricity. Just on talent alone, to be able to use a double saber AND shoot electricity...and look cool the way he does. Hard to believe Palpatine would have survived long b/c DM would have killed him to take the title of Sith Master. The "what if's" of Star Wars....George Lucas offed him way too soon!

@DarthFrost555666 No, since this trailer was released before the phantom menace score was recorded they used The Emperor's Theme form Return of the Jedi and Inner City from the original Star Wars.

Out of all the lightsaber fights in the series this was my favorite. Most of the movie was all about politics and then there was epicness at the end.

To me it's 2nd to Anakin vs Obi-Wan. The 1st half of Maul vs Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan was epic, but felt slighted when Obi-Wan and Maul went 1on1. That little segment should've been forefront.
