Fear is primal and ineradicable, and intelligence is just an elaboration of it.The Fight or Flight decision- how to fight or flee, whether to flee and then fight, or fight and then flee, whether in fleeing we learn how to fight,etc.. "Letting go", non-attachment,meditation,relaxation- these are all coping mechanisms by which we confront another problem- excessive stress. Our true nature and that of all sentients is defined by progress- the ever present desire to make the best of the situation.
Steve is right on the money here. The ego deserves compassion just like everything else in this mess we call "reality". The ego cares about YOUR BODY. That is the limit of its concern and one should honour that, respect it, have gratitude for it and then its not a problem. it has a perspective that you should consider. ;-)
The tormentor is a part of every individual, can be a persona that torments the inner you and creates problems, uneasiness and chaos in what you feel, life and goals. It seems that the tormentor is the bad side of us or what we think is teh bad side of us. The one taht make it difficult or maybe it just validate that whatever decisions we make if it turns bad blame it to that tormentor if everything goes bad...but yet it still you.
Thats the brilliant thing bout awareness, and counciousness which is who you are at the deepest, is that what ever you put your attention on that is bad, dissipates, and whatever you put your attention on that is good, makes it grow stronger. Thats the beauty of living a councious life.
There are over twenty very different ideals presented in this message. Each one is good depending on the individual and their circumstances. Without a dynamic tension within the mind, the modern world would not exist...we would still be living in caves. If one can be at peace in the middle of 'Times Square', you have achieved a degree of enlightenment.
You're so sexy when you talk that serious. :P

Good points, simple but hard to do..
That is a damn good name for it the tormentor. thank you
No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
one doesn't go into the strongman's house without first binding the strongman..
