I was the same entry as these lads and currently doing a short recruitment job. Most have just finished university so are 21/22 but there are a wide range of ages up to 31 for engineering officers and upper yardsman. You can only join as an officer in engineering or through the ranks at your age. If you do choose to join though, waiting times for officers are significantly shorter than for ratings so you are looking at 6 months from initial interview for an AIB.
