I never use more than 3 oz of corn sugar. Even if it's not well primed after 2 weeks, the wait is always worth it. The priming naturally takes longer with less sugar, but it will eventually carbonate well enough. Also, over-primed does NOT mean undrinkable. I can't believe you just fucking dumped your homebrew like that. Totally could have just let it settle. 15 minutes, pour those in a pint glass and enjoy. If happens again, uncap all remaining, let settle, and recap. They'll be fine!!
I don't really understand how people make this mistake. If you're brewing a kit it comes with the priming sugar, if it's from a recipe it should call for the correct amount already. Also why would the beer be undrinkable? let it sit and flatten a bit if it's too soda like at first then drink that damn beer!
@brewssuds I'd say not just priming sugar. I am sure you know what ya doing but it looks a touch like the SG wasnt down enough and fermentation was ever so slightly still going. Here's what i do.. pour it into a jug and put immediately into the fridge. the head will dissapate really fast and then pour it into your glass. Its fine. The extra priming sugar will give it another 0.25+ ABV =) All home brewers should have jugs in your fridge with your glasses. Keep the jug away from soap wrinse water
I bet you won't do that again....In that case, sometimes chilling the beer down to almost freezing could help that effect. You'll lose come head, but it will be drinkable. Cheers
I would have drank them.

Why does this render the beer undrinkable?
p00pindas00p 1 year ago
Pour it in a pitcher and let it settle out. It's driinkable.

Sometimes it's not just over priming. Not letting your beer ferment long enough before bottling can cause the same problem. I say fuck it drink up.

you said you use 1cup of sugar, i use 3/4 of a cup with no problems. try holding the over your mouth and away from the sink=problem solved.

Or bottling too soon... or getting a gusher infection.. or not mixing the priming solution well enough.
