I never believe The Allies were justic, the English & French declared war to Germany when Germans entered Poland, On the other hand, they did nothing to stop the Soviet Union invade Poland & Finland, or the Japanese invade China, They had double standards because they were more afraid of the formidable strength of newly rising Germany ( come to power in 1933) than the incompetent Soviet Union ( Regime since 1917), worrying their places being taken up by superior Germans.
d@ikmal017 yep..uniforms and style are very important, in fact many of the young people that made up a percentage of the 60 million humans who died, or who contributed to the death toll by inflicting it on others - actually chose their service on the basis of the uniforms.
I'm not saying people switched sides for the uniforms, just that the uniforms attracted people to a particular branch of the service within the countries. I have seen interviews with panzer crews who specifically chose the service based on the black uniforms..U-boat crews ditto.
@MsZwickau YUP! -These are supposedly "voluntary" russians, in what exactly what way is unclear but some might have been izmennik´s or "turncoats" other might have been forced....One thing is curtain i don´t think that any of them lasted hours after the war ended or ever returned to russia!
@Darki881 And the tankmen who were in these tanks were Red Army deserters or join with the ROA who know how to use it. Some were from Ukraine or any Baltic states too.
Yes it looks. Probably Germany won numerous tanks T-34 after a battle, because the industry such as Tiger tank was very catastrophe. It's by British and American bombs. You know that in 1945 the situation was hopelessness.

reckless. Training was very hard for the US Airborne. I had a relative in it. He underwent extensive training having had to pass a lot of exams. He was posted to the Philippines as most of them were. They thought Japan was the main threat, and the Phillipines had a large US presence there. It was a bit like Germany after WW2. Americans were sent to Germany for training - like Elvis. My relative was mentored by top military minds and had already written papers on strategy. This was typical.
How could they send these men up against the trained elite of Easy Company and their fearless leader Major Winters, the most famous soldier in the war. The Germans met their end in the decisive battle at Bastogne. The Germans fought well but lost. Losers cannot be considered in the annals of war. All heroes are victors and all victors are heroes.
Not just the TV. Major Winters is there in many books also. An example is the book "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose. This was turned into an award winning film series by the great historical expert on WW2, Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks.
Major Winters was fighting in the Battle of Bastogne. The German troops had to be taken off the Eastern Front to counter the attack by the American Easy Company. I am comparing the German troops here with those in the American Easy Company. The Germans are just not up to the standard of American troops.
The reason for American success was air supperiority (casuing supply shortages) the Germans were just as capable as the Americans in combat if not better.
O come on. Of you mean by trolling, horsing around, I guess we all do it from time to time. Life would be boring if everything we wrote was "dead serious". lol wow you are pretty ignorant, you seem to be obsessed by band of brothers! the germans were far better soldiers than the americans, despite what hollywood preaches.
Reckless. The facts prove otherwise. To be taken into Easy Company, you had to be a special elite. Many men tried to get in, both the selection process was too rigorous. Every man selected has to pass many difficult exams. The Band of Brothers is well research by leading historians. If the Germans were better, this would come through. In fact, the men of Easy Company hold up the entire German Army at Bastogne. The series is probably the best and most realistic documentary of the war.
lol i'm not denying that they were good soldiers, infact they were the best the americans had, but many of the germans, particuarly the SS&FJ were better.
besides they werent completely halted at bastogne, they went around and carried on, leaving only small german forces to attempt to take the town.
besides the western front itself wasnt what brought down germany, the eastern front was.
only 20% of the entire german forces ever fought the allies, 80% went to the eastern front.
Why does everyone say their army is the best? I think the results should do the talking. The US forces must be good, as they faced the Japanese pretty much alone, and also did most of the fighting against Italy. I agree that the USSR did most of the fighting against Germany. On that basis, Germany and the USA were the only ones facing three big powers. Whenever Germany and the US faced each other, the USA won. I think the reason was better training and equipment.
hello...Battle of the Kasserine Pass, 1943 anyone?
the germans won that battle and the americans lost that pretty badly. Did i mention that this was the first battle the americans fought in WW2? and the fact that the allies lost bout 30%of their men and the germans only 10%?
Yes, the Battle of Kasserine Pass was a loss for the Americans, but it was a strategic loss for the Germans because it made some of them believe that that would be how every battle against the Americans would go. It lessened the Germans' resolve. And the Americans did learn some vital lessons from that battle, not to mention that it led to the sacking of some of the more incompetent generals at the battle.
Remeber that it was the first time the germans used Tiger tanks, and also the first time americnas face german Panzers, so inexperienced americans against rommels unit with the best tanks at that time, thats clearly a american defeat.
I didn't deny that in my last comment; Kasserine Pass was definitely a tactical failure on multiple levels for the Americans. However, it made the Germans think every American commander would make the same mistakes, which Patton made sure they regretted.
Yes. Kasserine Pass was a defeat for the Americans. Note that the commander was English! Typical! After that the Americans never trusted the English. The American Major General Fredendall was considered a hero and immediately promoted.
No, US commander was Loyd ferdendall, he messed it all up. The bris led by montgomery were sucesfull however nd hen patton replaced ferdendall, the americnas were recowering from the defeat.
No, it wasnt even the first against the germans. It was however the frist time american troops faced german tanks, inccluding the Tiger I.
The reason why the Americans lost at the beginning of the campaign was becuase Frededall was a very bad commander and messed it up on the casserine pass. Then the brits however led by montgomery were quite sucessfull, later when Pattoon replaced Fredendall the americnas were more sucessfull.
The allies lost 183 tanks, germans 34. So pretty much 6 to 1 XD
Commanderofwar states that 'Hitler killed the weak so that the strong may survive'. Funny, I thought he was responsible for wiping out a generation of his best young men, as the Kaiser had done a generation before him. Thank God Germany has overcome the madness of the early 20th century and is now a mature democracy and ally. And thank God Stalin has gone - alas, the Russians still have Putin.
1: Not only those 6 million of Jews. There were also over 20 million of Soviet citizens, 3 million of Poles etc. 2: Stalin had been in power for a much longer time. If Hitler had been in office for that long, there wouldn't be any Russians, Jews or Poles today. Because that was his plan, he was just stopped from realizing it. If you're too stupid to reason properly, why stick your nose into such important and complex things like wars and dictatorships? Go sweep the floor for fuck's sake.
No you stupid asshole. Germans came to Russia to kill everyone, Stalin just didn't do much about it. Idiot. And besides 15 million were civilians. The Germans came bombing and burning, yet it's not their fault that millions died! Hitler is blameless! He just designed Generalplan Ost to clear Eastern Europe from Slavs, sent his troops there and killed millions, yet it's not HIS fault!
If you were a German, Hitler was a genunine hero for getting the country off of its knees and restoring the economy. His biggest mistake was his extreme anti-Semitism. Jews were in general a destructive influence in Germany, but instead of making enemies with them, he should have joined with the Zionists, and worked with the British to resettle them in Palestine, in numbers large enough to overwhelm the Arab masses and have a large Jewish state!
His other mistake was to humiliate Chamberlin by invading Czechoslovakia (a non-German state) six months after receiving the Sudetenland in Munich. As to his positive side, he gave a damn about the health and well-being of the German people, particularly its young people. Compare that to the pathetic, decadent and impoverishing Weimer Republic. Compare it to the present German regime that works to destroy Germany by bringing in massive numbers of Turks and Arabs!
germany owes millions to america because america built germany back up with the marshall plan.also the berlin airlift helped many berliners.unfortunately many of todays germans quickly forget that.
One of the identifiable early mistake the German leadership committed, is that they haven't used the huge human resources of the liberated territories, to fight with them together against Bolshevism. When they finally recognized the immensity of the task on the Ostfront and corrected those earlier mistakes, it was already too late. The Bolshevik propaganda by that time characterized the German advancements as 'imperial', (or Nazi) conquest.
yes, but they did do what you said in some ways. watch the latvia videos here on you tube. Many fought side by side with the Nazis .
Hitler's real mistake was to take up the capitalist mantle and fight communism. He hated Winston Churchill, he instituted massive retaliatory civilian bombings on London, yet was incapable of bringing England to her knees. Instead he decides to invade USSR. What a delusion he lived in! Did he think the capitalists would join him?
You brought up a very interesting question, which intrigues historian since. Although Hitler, loathed Churchill, 'his heart' was not in the invasion, but rather some sort of 'entente cordial' with the Brits. When it was too late, he hesitated because maritime projection of power (specially againt Britain) apalled him. For example during the Norvegian invasion, (and any other subsequent maritime invasion later on) the RN took a heavy toll on his shipping. Half his loses were at sea.
Absurd. Look at Gimmlers face. That was a maniac, no no no gitler wanted to eliminate eastern europe. He really belived in it. Of course russia will lose battle if people from eastern europe fight against Stalin. But check it out----Gitler ELIMINATE weak non arian races. He really belivied that this is a key to defeat german enemies
Предатели, ненавижу власовских тварей. Так же и нынешние "правозащитники" типа Каспарова или Лимонова... Правильно сказал Путин про таких людишек: это шакалы.
OH OH they are wery poor these ROA soliders. Neraly everyone of them who get prisonier to the soviets gets killed. And the most of them where killed in prisonier camps. But they lose very many men in combat to ca.100000. I really don't wanna get taken bu the russians if i were a ROA solider
Of course. It would have been the same as if you, as a Swiss, had joined the Nazi Army in the 2nd World War if the Nazis had attacked Switzerland. In fact, several Swiss men had been shot under the law of war in Switzerland for high treason.
I live in swiss. I am born in sweden and am a doppelbürger. So i would be a swed in eg. Wiking. And sweds were vell respected and were liked. They were artverwandt.
These were the POA, the Russian Liberation Army volunteers from anti-communist Russians and other nations under Soviet domination. This formation was constructed very late in the war, only during October 1944.

And thank God Stalin has gone - alas, the Russians still have Putin.
jackychanto 3 years ago
Simpletons and mentally you do not know all about it, the Germans are made out to be bad just because they are pre-empted the Russians!
Russians are not a bit better, they had no later than 1943 Germany attacked!
sdkfz162kingtiger 3 years ago
Ihr deppen wisst alle nicht bescheid, die Deutschen werden als schlecht hingestellt, nur weil sie den Russen zuvorgekommen sind!
Russen sind kein bisschen besser, sie hätten spätestens 1943 Deutschland angegriffen!

think hitler kiled only like 6 milion in camps wath is nothing compared to the 60 milion ppl that died while stalin was at poser
maarschalkvr 3 years ago
1: Not only those 6 million of Jews. There were also over 20 million of Soviet citizens, 3 million of Poles etc. 2: Stalin had been in power for a much longer time. If Hitler had been in office for that long, there wouldn't be any Russians, Jews or Poles today. Because that was his plan, he was just stopped from realizing it. If you're too stupid to reason properly, why stick your nose into such important and complex things like wars and dictatorships? Go sweep the floor for fuck's sake.
slavantiquity 3 years ago
those 20 million that stalin send into battle with barly weapons i think stalin murderd them
maarschalkvr 3 years ago
No you stupid asshole. Germans came to Russia to kill everyone, Stalin just didn't do much about it. Idiot. And besides 15 million were civilians. The Germans came bombing and burning, yet it's not their fault that millions died! Hitler is blameless! He just designed Generalplan Ost to clear Eastern Europe from Slavs, sent his troops there and killed millions, yet it's not HIS fault!

If you were a German, Hitler was a genunine hero for getting the country off of its knees and restoring the economy. His biggest mistake was his extreme anti-Semitism. Jews were in general a destructive influence in Germany, but instead of making enemies with them, he should have joined with the Zionists, and worked with the British to resettle them in Palestine, in numbers large enough to overwhelm the Arab masses and have a large Jewish state!
gurdjieff66 3 years ago
His other mistake was to humiliate Chamberlin by invading Czechoslovakia (a non-German state) six months after receiving the Sudetenland in Munich. As to his positive side, he gave a damn about the health and well-being of the German people, particularly its young people. Compare that to the pathetic, decadent and impoverishing Weimer Republic. Compare it to the present German regime that works to destroy Germany by bringing in massive numbers of Turks and Arabs!

HA HA HA, gitlers killed so many people, strong army he had but one nuclear bomb from US 1946 and game over
I think THIS WAR HAD THE ONLY AIM: KILL AS MANY PEOPLE AS IT COULD. concentration camps, 20 miliion russians and so on.

germany owes millions to america because america built germany back up with the marshall plan.also the berlin airlift helped many berliners.unfortunately many of todays germans quickly forget that.

One of the identifiable early mistake the German leadership committed, is that they haven't used the huge human resources of the liberated territories, to fight with them together against Bolshevism. When they finally recognized the immensity of the task on the Ostfront and corrected those earlier mistakes, it was already too late. The Bolshevik propaganda by that time characterized the German advancements as 'imperial', (or Nazi) conquest.
wotan20 3 years ago 2
yes, but they did do what you said in some ways. watch the latvia videos here on you tube.
Did he think the capitalists would join him?
greatgambino 3 years ago
You brought up a very interesting question, which intrigues historian since. Although Hitler, loathed Churchill, 'his heart' was not in the invasion, but rather some sort of 'entente cordial' with the Brits. When it was too late, he hesitated because maritime projection of power (specially againt Britain) apalled him. For example during the Norvegian invasion, (and any other subsequent maritime invasion later on) the RN took a heavy toll on his shipping. Half his loses were at sea.
wotan20 3 years ago

These were the POA, the Russian Liberation Army volunteers from anti-communist Russians and other nations under Soviet domination. This formation was constructed very late in the war, only during October 1944.

Interesting to see the newsreel clip; have seen a few stills from it before, but seeing the whole segment is most useful.
