  • @LiveVegan other animal species are not equivalent to humans, sorry. It's not immoral to eat meat.

  • and yesterday all her babblings were proven to be just that .....empty babbling ,by a group of real biologists.. good luck in your new career as a welfare bum ms. morton

  • It's 2010!! More record returns of wild salmon in British Columbia. Ohh, and right next to fish farms too. Hahahaha. Boneheads.

  • If u want to find something - you will. It likes if i said we have no healthy people, we have not good seeking deseases doctors.

  • Record return of pink salmon to this area in the fall of 2009. So this lady's "sky is falling" prediction never came true...still waiting for her apology...hahah...did she get her diploma on the back of a cereal box?

  • John Fredriksen, once known as the richest man in Norway and the owner of the largest tanker fleet in the world is a major shareholder of Marine Harvest which lists itself as the largest salmon fish farm company in the world. Even Fredriksen, an avid fisherman said that fish farms should not be placed near wild salmon habitat

  • @cradel3 Kind of a good thing they aren't then, eh.

  • Studies done by who? The DFO, the tobacco industry, Any Omega benefit is likely negated by the toxic stew of chemicals and carcinogens found in these salmon. Check the US Environmental Protection Agencies guide lines for consuming this salmon

  • @cradel3 bullshit

  • By the way cradel3 if you checked your information more carefully you would know that Fredrickson isn't the CEO of the biggest aquaculture company of the world nor does he hold the most shares. Please keep your information factual.

  • garden , Fredrickson owns approx 31 % the rest is divided up into 5-7% ownership most by American banks He is as you correctly state not the CEO however.

  • The past 2 or 3 years have had amazing winter Chinook numbers actually...unseen in the past 20 years. A very good sign!!!

  • sport fishing is no where near the problem of illegal comercial fishing, fish farms, and the over-use of nets along the rivers.

Dont blame sport fishing, its so minimal to the actual numbers, especially considering most new generation of kids growing up dont fish, they play video games.

  • I heard that Salmon Farming generates $600 million to BC economy. Not bad. With this mass amount of money BC can afford to set rules and do some R & D to improve this farming practice. I would say to keep off lice and other possible diseases, make the farm more on natural to salmon like simulate migration routes. I would also get help from bio marine research groups to bring this business to more eco-friendly and more healthier system. peace.

  • The starving bears running around desperate for thier one food source is breaking my heart.

  • yourdumb is right: bears don't just eat fish. They are omnivores meaning they are opportunists and grass and berries is a normal part of their diet. Along with deer, moose apples and carrion and anything else they can get their paws on.

  • shoot im an omnivore i love a fresh garden salad followed by a freshly caught wild alaskan salmon mmmmmmmm bonapetite

  • Your a liar. Alaska "ranched" salmon is not wild it is farmed. And by the way Alaska salmon tastes like s*** compared to Canadian wild salmon.

  • @IamreallySybil your on crack! have you ever heard of hmmm copper river sockeye or yukon kings dude the kenai has the best salmon on earth

  • @IamreallySybil ill give you the fact that the fraiser had great sockeye but isnt that stolk collaped due to fish farms?

  • @IamreallySybil You have no idea what you're talking about. It's funny reading the shit that morons like you write.

  • Fish farming is contributing to the world food crisis as soy is being used to feed fish. Fish farming is cruel and unethical. Go vegan for peace, for all sentient beings and the environment.

  • Livevegan: Not everyone is a vegan. Farm fish supplies tons and tons of protein to the world

  • Firstly fish farms are horrific, they create great issues for wild salmon and the environment. Don't buy the protein myth, there's plenty of protein in plant based sources. It's immoral to use animals for any reason, just because they are a different species. This is no more moral, than exploiting people based on race.

  • If you want to eat nuts and berries go for it. personally I prefer my protein to come from fish ie Atlantic salmon and meat

  • did you know that there is not a single commercially sought after wild stock of atlantic salmon anywhere in the WORLD any longer due to pollution loss of habitat and the same open net pens all throughout europe and possibly the east coast im not sure about that though

  • Do you know there's not a single wild salmon in Alaska ? They are FARMED and released for capture.

  • @IamreallySybil well actually i belive its 40 percent salmon RANCHED/HATCHERY released the following 60 percent are 100% WILD

  • There are fish farms on the east coast of US and one is being towed to Washington state in Cradel3's video. Mind that video could be as full of bs as this one is. Morton has lost her following cradel3 Find something truthful and worthwhile to film.

  • Live vegan : I have seen documentaries about people who were 100% vegan and almost died of starvation. Believe Morton's lies if you choose. I personally know better. I expect if I told you some fish food is made from plants you would then cry it is depriving you of your "natural" diet.

  • Livevegan : Have you ever even seen a fish farm or done a tour of one ? Plant protein isn't the same type of protein as meat or fish either.

  • Continued to MrArchiebarker:

There is more omega 3 in plant based sources than there is in fish or green lipped mussels sources. -- Chia seeds, chlorella, flaxseed, walnuts, walnut oil, mustard seed, mustard seed oil and the list goes on. 5. The oceans will be empty by 2048. All kinds of fishing are unsustainable. 6. Human overpopulation and animal use industries are the other inconvenient truths.

  • Continued to MrArchiebarker While there is the rate of breeding in the human species, there will be a 50% increase in food in 20 years. Unsustainable. 7. Lastly, a new report reveals 51% of GHG are due to animal use industries. Therefore, ---- Go vegan, adopt don't breed, Vasectomy is green.

  • Livevegan: gee I don't know too many men who have had vesectomies who would refer to it as "green" painful yes, green.............NO

  • Open net farms just should not be allowed in or near wild salmon migration routes period.

Also a closed system if setup right with sand filters etc would protect the environment better by preventing the farm from getting infested with sea lice in the first place.

  • Ban the god damn farming. Where are the Feds. People what to farm salmon have them do it in Iowa. If the population has to do without salmon for 20 years while the natural stock return so be it. Eat chicken. Get some god damn lawyers and start suing the shit out of everyone. Man, I'll support any action on this and I am a fisherman! There doing the same thing in Mexico with shrimp farming.

  • NSV102A says, "ban farming, eat chicken and he is a fisherman". Good comments.....moron.

  • Maybe I didn't clarify that I am a sport fisherman. Sorry. The only thing moronic is wiping out the base species for the sake of farming practices. There's more money in sport fishing than there ever will be in commercial fishing.

  • Gotcha, but perhaps you start suing, you should know that over 50% of the fishmeal caught in the world actually goes toward chickens and pigs - not salmon and other fish - and salmon is the most efficient converter of fish meal to edible protein. So why all the fuss about salmon farming?...politics and de-marketing, that's why.

  • So your saying that there's no problem with the sea lice? Reduced fish stocks is usually the reason for farming. They are doing this all over the world. (tuna, salmon, shrimp, red snapper, clams, oysters, abalone, ect.) Most have a adverse affect and I have seen it. Is this video blowing smoke or what? Personally I would rather eat prime rib and the only fish I eat is what I catch. Except for that king crab . Damn tasty.

  • So your saying it's okay to fish salmon to stuff them and put them on the wall but not to feed the world albeit either farmed or commercial caught salmon ?? You must be living too well !!

  • @crampedu2 I'm sure you watched the video and saw those reasons as well. It's simply not sustainable and ethical, its detrimental to multiple species. And it still takes something like 10 pounds of meal to make 1 pound of salmon, so it's still not that efficient to raise them like this. Wild caught can be better, and a method of allowing populations to regenerate and then maintaining that population is possible, and is probably the best option.

  • @KatMays379 You have farmed and wild feed conversions backward. It takes about 1.5 pounds of fish meal/oil to produce 1 pound of farm-raised salmon. It takes 5-10 pounds of fish to make 1 pound of hatchery/ranched salmon. Fact. Done and posted.

  • @crampedu2

Dude thats exactly it...its sad how people dont bother doing reaserch for themselves. You could almost argue that the media(tv news reports, and journals) are a horrible source for information due to them not caring about the truth but more about ratings. Honestly people you cant belive everything you hear...look up information its all over the web, just sometimes its harder to find due the the media controling it. Look at both sides of the argument. You'll learn more that way!

  • Yeah and more greed. I have personally seen sport fisherman take triple and quadruple their allowable limits of salmon species. Then they are the first to whine. Look at Bob Wright. he has become a very rich man off a resource that supposedly belongs to everyone.

  • So you think sports fishing isn't detrimental to wild fish. Limited users some getting rich off a resource that supposedly belongs to everyone. ie Bob Wright I have personally seen sports fishermen take two to three times their daily limit. Guess wiping out the blueback in Campbell River a few years back didn't effect the mature coho stocks huh ?

  • NSV102A : It's not about money fool. Commercial fishing supplies food to the world. Fishermen have hundreds of thousands invested in their vessels. Sports fishing supplies limited food and lots of work for taxidermists

  • My old farm!

    Im a proud salmon farmer.

  • The Institute For health and the environment reported in their research that fish farm salmon are a toxic stew of pesticides , fungicides, antibiotics, fire retardants, and carcinogens. and recommended only 1 serving per month

  • cradel3: I think that's a slightly exaggerated view. Other studies claim farmed fish are an excellent source of Omega 3's and are perfectly safe and healthy to eat.

  • omega 3 yes but they are chalked full of other contaminents that wild fish would never have

  • awesome video. Thanks!
