  • He looked pissed at the beginning!@

  • Does he use his splash once?

  • @awhitman211 4:00 ....like exactly ONCE. haha :-D

  • THIS IS THEN MOST AMAZING THING I'VE EVER SEEN!

(I"M SORRY FOR THE CAPS LOCK, ITS NOT BROKEN. I JUST WANT TO EXPRESS HOW AWESOME THIS IS)

  • Yeah yeah, its all been said, lets just swing.....Go Buddy.......

  • So if he says "we r gonna play this thing till its right" does that mean the band just played it and messed up?

  • @Leedysgladstones Wouldn't doubt it. He was a giant stickler about getting shit right lol.

  • Great chart.....and buddy looked and sounded like he was takin' no prisoners that night.

  • i believe george zonce jazz trumpet, ken faulk, 2nd, john deflon 3rd, don switzer bass trombone. saw this band in august 1969, my first br concert.

  • I always thought the big band carried him---until now!

  • 1:38 JAZZ BLAST!!!

  • The Little Drummer Boy was written for Buddy Rich.

  • Art.

  • Rick is a great musician. thanks for the info.

  • who can list the personal on this one..greatly appreciated.

  • @mcgovnor1 Not sure of all of them. This is late 68-69 band. Quinn Davis is lead alto, Richie Cole alto 2, Pat LaBarbera and Don Englert, tenors. Mike Price, lead trumpet. Rick Stepton, lead trombone

  • Rick Stepton is the lead trombone player on this one.Laid it down!Great Band and Buddy kicked their butts......

  • he was jewish

  • @TheMASDrummer Redeeming social value.

  • does he use an armand ride

  • Amazing, and Buddy Rich couldn't even read music! He had another drummer come in and do the practices, and he could easily memorize everything.

  • I told my friend that I loved Buddy Rich he said: Wait Buddy Rich plays drums? I almost hit him. Haha.

  • I have a friend whom just told me he thought this music was sh<+ ,All I could think of was ,it must really suck to him, VERY GOOD MUSIC !!!

  • 68 or 69

  • Holy, hes playing matched grip....you don't see that very often!!

  • what year??

  • 4:24 my favorite part of this video love that breakdown

  • this is a spouse of J Trimble? I gather he is not able to... So much time has gone by. I met him and job shadowed one night in Vegas in the late 70s. I'd like to bookmark this link and see what comments happen to continue. I rode with Mr Trimble and he stopped by his home for a moment... He seemed very devoted to his work, probably to say the least. He talked of his horn and how that came to be.

  • Who is the lead trumpet player in this video?

  • I only recognize the short trumpet player. He and his wife had to get step ladders for their beds when we stayed at "The White House" on Earl's Court Square while touring England. I didn't want to stay in Picadilli Circus with regular tourists. Paula Gannan and I found that secluded bed and breakfast, I have some silly memories of those tours! : ) My son keeps me posted on most of the band members from that era. : )

  • Did you notice Jim Trimble's solo "Somewhere" wasn't included in this version? Ever hear Chuck Findley play it on trumpet?

  • I did not even hear of Buddy Rich until about 1970. I never heard Chuck Findley play in the band. I only saw Buddy's band live one time, when he was touring with

    Tony Bennett in 1972 0r 1973.

  • We toured with Tony in '68. I saved quite a few of those brochures, especially the ones from England. The price says two shillings and a sixpence. It's an orange brochure that says Tony Bennett and Buddy Rich with a picture of them standing back to back in individual photos holding microphones. Tony had a Frankenstein hair cut. : )

  • Comment removed

  • Is Jim Trimble playing "Somewhere" in one of the black-and-white videos entitled "Buddy Rich 1966," or is it someone else? John Boice? (I can't post the full youtube link, but this is the number: a5TcCnQ3CgE)

  • Yes, that's John Bunch - that's how I pronounced his name. He drove us to Vegas when Jim and I got married there. Yes, you can see Jim in one of the many videos playing his solo. Did you know his dad, Kenny Trimble played for Lawrence Welk until his death and our son plays the trumpet down in Branson

  • his press rolls............fucking chillsssssssssssssss nobody compares ha even to this fucking day long live Rich=)

  • thanks for the post Brian. The full song conveys much more and the build up into the solo. I wish my mother didn't tape over my vhs of the 82 montreal jazz festival vid. it's like 40$ now. someone should make a torrent.

  • groovy tune cats! buddy sure topped himself on this one!

  • this is my favorite buddy rich song!!!! next to channel 1 suite of course!!!

  • first of all there are other recordings where this arrangement has been changed in some way - shortened for the sake of the Drum solo ? hmm Always awesome, but haow 'bout the short breaks and fills along the way and the left hand comping behind soloists - the building of tension and release within. There are so many other incredible details to Buddys playing that are often overlooked. Wow You Just Gotta Love Buddy Rich ! - thanks for the post -

  • 1:50 stick lost!

  • Wow dude honestly did not notice that till you commented,I've watched this video a bunch of times love how he didn't panic and kept on playing.

  • Did u hear his bass work at around 1:42? AMAZING!

  • Awesome! I just got the Buddy Rich Drum Channel DVD and its amazing!

  • Man, I've been watching this video black and white for years, and now I find this version in color... awesome!

  • Agreed!! It's great!

  • must be one of his best performances

  • the sound of buddys drums and cymbals are something else....credit to slingerland and armand

    ziljidan

  • DAMN, did I see matched grip in the beginning---COOL!

  • Damn.

  • Sounds like bbc edited out somewhere

  • No one was a bigger perfectionist then good ol, Buddy Rich.

  • I was there back in '67 when it was recorded. : )

  • CTrimble,

Are you related to Jim Trimble? IMHO, he was one of the best trombonists ever to play in Buddy Rich's band.

  • I was married to him and have many memories of our life on the road with Buddy.

  • I just posted under comments. I never let his father but knew Jim briefly in Las Vegas. I haven't commented before this.

  • One of my favorite videos! And in color too!! Awesome, thanks for posting!

  • YES! its in color!
