Not everybody has patients & even the will to be an engineer! There is a reason why engineering students have a very high drop out rate (not as high as MD school but its high). Take it from someone who graduated double majoring in Flight Operator (instrument rating) & Flight management to later can't find a job because of the economy. Later decides to go back for major in aviation engineer out his on pocket. Engineering is hard but rewarding

Though celebrity advertising is prominent on a global level (to a certain extent) you won't find the same sense of celebrity-worship anywhere but America (at least I haven't come in contact with a similar societal situation). It's ridiculous: respecting science and scientists should be an integral aspect of any culture.
