Actually most teachers oppose merit pay. But, Because I am a teacher AND a tax payer I am all for it! Since when do teachers not work hard or pay taxes?! Teachers educate the adults of tomorrow. Perhaps though you never had an education. That would be my guess...

I am a teacher! I am all for merit pay! I am not afraid! I think good teachers should be rewarded and the teachers who are simply slipping by are a huge reason that our country is at the bottom of the G8 as far as educational performance!

Barack Obama is stupid on education.

Over one hundred years of study on merit pay has disproven the concept.

Is this guy that uninformed that he doesn't even know the basic history of this topic?

@MrNeaguy It appears at Obama is very aware of the dangers of merit pay: that it can assess teachers unfairly, that it can be arbitrarily administered by principles and other administrators, and that standardized tests do not sufficiently assess student performance. However, it does not mean that a system of merit pay is hopeless - it's just that no one has proposed an adequate solution to the problems addressed above. Obama does not have the solution, he is saying that we should try to find it.

Well duh. Of course. Unfortunately all these so called reformers like Obama, Rhee, Autin and Gates are trying to reform what they don't understand. The real problem in education is exactly this, Top decicion makers run policies that destroy education. They only take the opinion of those who don't know what things really are like in education such as consultants who have never been in a classroom and entrepeneurs who don't have a teaching credentials such as Gates and Austin.

@proudmckinleyparent Amen to that! Exactly the reason why our schools are failing! They have plenty to say but they don't have nothing to do with teaching our kids! If I tell you right now that I teach 100% of my students. Would you believe me? I do teach 100% of my students as a volunteer. The worst of the worst of students I handled. All of them starts solving with me in minutes of instructions. If my method is use to teach our kids. It will certainly make an impact to our schools.
