I love this being an african-american female writer i dont wanna writer "poor blk me, oppressed" films or "male bashing" films. I LOVE WRITING SCI-FI and its so hard making sci-fi indies.
This is great... first timer for me. Great info. You are soooo right and really on point and honest. You will reap so much for sharing your advice... Your reward is not of this world.
Hi Camille, I have a question about this career, well I'm in college now and I am actually pursuing a career in acting. So after scool I'm moving to New York, but I'm wanting to have screenwriting as a career to fall back on for now and I have a few ideas for films. I was wondering since people say the LA should be the place, i really have no way to got there besides NY, so is there a safe and easy way to sell my script online to agents? and how? :)
Thanks Camille. I'm a filmmaker/screenwriter based in Canada currently. I'm debating moving to either NY or Los Angeles to find an agent/sell my script (an interesting fantasy comedy story which I co wrote with another writer). I made one short film which has recently played at Cannes film festival short film corner. I prefer moving to NY, though some people say LA is the only place I should move. Any advice?
@pahari75 Hey there... ahhh HOW CAN YOU ASK AN LA GIRL THAT?!! lol. Hmm. If you wanted to work in production and theatre, I would say NY. If you want to sell a script, I say LA. However, it can take 5-10 years to really break into the biz, starting with assistant jobs, internships, TV writing assistant, production assistant, etc. You will need to build your network here. Good to go back and forth to Canada. People want to shoot in CN n need Canadian a producer. Hope this helps! :)
This information is so helpful, especially to a new screenplay writer like myself that has just moved to Los Angeles to turn my dreams into a reality. Thank you very much.
Camille, I really appreciate your good advice. I like all of your tips. The way you explain things is vey helpful. And, hearing you tell your story about how you got your start by being proactive and making it happen with your own projects as opposed to sitting around waiting for someone to knock on your door is very inspiring. Thanks for being a good example of how it's possible to make successful movies as an independent filmmaker.

I'm very shy and it's hard for me to over come this. Would it be a lot harder for me to get jobs if I'm not as outgoing as other people?
