Yes, it was beyond amazing and so much better than any of the trash shoved at our faces by the media these days but political and social tensions were high, racism was rife, and I'm not sure I would be able to accept my defined role in society. That said, the music is right here, preserved pristine by technology for us to listen to and share forever more.

People hear the music and see the films and decide that the 40s-60s were the ideal decades to live in but they seem to forget that the world was at war for most of that time, and that social, political, and economic injustice were in their prime at that time. The attitudes we have towards modern day music are the same that people at that time would've had to some of the artists we today deem legendary.

You're kidding, or deaf. AD's superficial reading has no understanding of the meaning of the words, though understandable - english is her third language after spanish and french, it shows. Don't confuse AD's physical attractiveness with vocal ability. Billie sang WITH the musicians, and that interplay and intimacy shows in her version. And they did four complete songs, with alternative versions, in 3 hours. It would take that long for AD to put her makeup on.
