kid again ur 100% correct...about the shrooms but you need to stop locking yourself in this box called united states. just cuz some people are better off dosent mean you should turn your back on the world. you should listen to this song again and really listen shes traying to tell you somthing but is in code i love this bitch cuz of that, she knows the Truth through music. ur on ur way too so am I thats y we listen to this " is the same old story "
@W1lly007 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, you think I'm American. Mate, if you wanted to offend me then you just succeeded. Bloody hell, American indeed. Don't act like you know me, you really don't. Anyway, I've concluded you might be high, so enjoy it :)
@riptonks LMAO yeah well that tells me how ignorant you are... to the point I thought you were american... You're right you're nothing but a suburban kid... and yes I am high...
Always have a soft spot for this song. My father was an actor and in the film Casablanca; he always said he was about 10 feet away from Dooley Wilson as he sang this...
It is wonderful music a time of class and appreciation of good music not coverbands and mix mashs of hip hop crap i love this music it was truely elegant
I'm 15, and I'm not one of those people who wish I lived back in the 40s just for the music. Yes, it was beyond amazing and so much better than any of the trash shoved at our faces by the media these days but political and social tensions were high, racism was rife, and I'm not sure I would be able to accept my defined role in society. That said, the music is right here, preserved pristine by technology for us to listen to and share forever more.
@riptonks Nice to hear a wise overview! People hear the music and see the films and decide that the 40s-60s were the ideal decades to live in but they seem to forget that the world was at war for most of that time, and that social, political, and economic injustice were in their prime at that time. The attitudes we have towards modern day music are the same that people at that time would've had to some of the artists we today deem legendary.
@riptonks For whatever it's worth....you're right on all counts...the music of the 20's 30's and 40's were wonderful...but it was a period of tremendous political instability...and you're right again about the racial tensions...and something else....as in all eras..what we as a culture remeber from any era is the best of that era....there was an awful lot of crap that was produced musically in the 20's 30's and 40's....
@closethippy2000 ..... then give me me crappy music from the 20s 30s and 40s.. still beats the SHIT folks try to pass off as "music" today.... you can keep that rap crap and those whorin asses like Britney, Christina and that God-awful Lady Gaga trash!
@mugen1237 And clearly no one gave a fuck about teaching you basic comprehension when you were young. My comment wasn't about liking the music - not to say that I don't - but about the silly sods who think they want to live in 40s Harlem and how they should stop griping.
@mugen1237 obviously you gave a fuck enough to make a stupid comment. And if I want to say that I want to live in 40's Harlem (I didn't) but If I want to - I will say it and that does not make me or anyone else a silly sod.
@riptonks kid what makes you think shit isnt the same. evrything you said was true then and is true now..wait until you start doing hard drugs and realize that ur so call "defined role in society" is a joke. that said take some shrooms become a human
@W1lly007 So no one has a better quality of life these days when compared to the depression? I'm not saying we live in a good society but things have come on in 80 years for many people. And since when were shrooms hard drugs, dude?
Its late night, i have MTV on mute and this lovely miracle of melody as loud as possible. If the whole world would do that there would have been no wars (real and cultural ones) and thus, no victims of any kind of stupidity.
@Svm777 yeah I read few interpretations of that part and some say that it was ment for Bille and some for Janis. I think it works fine for both girls who sang the blues and this fragment really touched me, i thout it was proper to quote it here. :)
What I love about Billie is her storytelling through her music. She understood the essence of the song and what to bring to the listeners. You feel her joy, her pain. So many singers today are focussed on trying to impress with their vocal chops that they lose sight of the beauty of the melody and lyrics.
Simply amazing! I love this standard, and usually dislike changes to the song. But Billie, being the unique, brilliant artist she is, managed to sing it in a different yet familiar way. What a blessing we had in Billie. And what a huge loss. I hope that she knows how many fans still love her.
it's almost like you have two versions of the song, the Billie Holiday version and the one everybody else sings. I love this song sung straight, but this version is almost like something new, not quite the familiar tune but equally amazing.
•* @StraussBogart ❤•*¨*•❀My God .. What comment of a version of "As Time Goes By" performed by Billie Holiday ?.... The one thing I can say it is a video editing, absolutely amazing and unforgettable!❤•Thank you Alan, for sharing*¨*•❀❤
@TheCityrooster You should check out the Arielle Dombasle version. I heard it from her the first. Definitely not Billie's style but Really Really good. You should check it out. ^_^!! Maybe it's on youtube.
You're kidding, or deaf. AD's superficial reading has no understanding of the meaning of the words, though understandable - english is her third language after spanish and french, it shows. Don't confuse AD's physical attractiveness with vocal ability. Billie sang WITH the musicians, and that interplay and intimacy shows in her version. And they did four complete songs, with alternative versions, in 3 hours. It would take that long for AD to put her makeup on.
it's hard to define what makes her the greatest, but that's what she is. no argument.
