@threppin Boxing is sport that is specialized only on fist strikes, you're missing a lot of tools here and you forget that most MMA fighters are wrestlers who have a crash course in stand up fighting so they don't get clobbered in the first five seconds. Also MMA isnt' just about wrestling, there's also quite a bit of striking and boxing skills when combined with some good ground game and a leg crash course can really put on the hurt.

MMA is "mixed martial arts" meaning you should be trained in a mixture of martial arts to be able to compete. UFC was started by the Gracie's because they believed their style BJJ could defeat any other style on earth and for a while they were right. Those early UFC fights are what caused the evolution of the current MMA fighter. But I somewhat agree and I think they should try to market and invite fighters from more disciplines to further evolve the sport.

Nowadays it's just mainly high-skilled MMA fighters against each other, there's very little boxer presence. Karate is represented by Machida, Wrestling is represented by Lesnar. Who represents Kung-Fu, Judo, Boxing, etc these days?
