  • Well, let me ask all of you a question. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss?

  • Everytime.

  • If I could re enact any scene for my drama class, this would be the one.

  • I had never seen bardem before this, and still can't picture him without that awesome haircut.

  • cool how bardem made his accent, not mexican, not texan, not spanish just alien.

  • The scene that won him the Oscar.

  • chigurh sounds like a dude i know

  • classic!

  • He decide to coin the man after the man said that he was coming from Dallas, aka potential clue if police shows up and ask about supicious ppl

  • lol this is the funniest scene in the whole movie

  • what accent is his character supposed to have?

  • No accent. Chigurh was meant to be a man from nowhere.

  • He has a slight touch of a Spanish accent. The kind of Spanish people you find in New Mexico. That might just be because his actor is obviously a Latino, but whatever.

  • No, Bardem is Spainard.

  • Yeah. A Latino. One one billionth of a genetic difference rationally isn't enough to warrant any discernability.

  • Well, Latino seems to carry the connotation of being a S. American of Spanish descend but really doesn't matter.

The director said in an interview that he wanted Chigur's character to be utterly alien with motives unfathomable. Bardem obviously worked hard to stamp out the Spanish accent. If you heard him speak in the Oscars, his accent is incredibly thick.

Civility is such a welcome change on youtube.

  • I didn't get the sense Chigurh planned that whole thing all along. Notice how he starts out by askuing the price. I think the storeowner's small talk just pissed him off. It was spontaneous.

  • Yep, Chigurh is a psychopath, but he isn`t stupid to just start killing people randomly if it serves no purpose. The storeowner noticed his car had Dallas plates and mentioned it - hence Chigurh saw he might be a liability as he`ll remember the car and its driver. Yet he wasn`t sure if it was dangerous enough to go throught another mess of a killing - hence the coin toss settled the matter.

  • Nope it was NOT spontaneous. The storeowner had noticed that Chigurh's stolen car is from Dallas, and Chigurh knew this could mean potential trouble for him. After all the police later found the stolen car all burnt.

If the police later showed up and asked the storeowner if he had seen a white stolen Ford from Dallas, he could say it was driven by a man with Chigurh's look and clothes.

Chigurh had no reason to kill the man until he accidently asked if he was from Dallas (the stolen car)

  • Dr.Arsenicum had apparently already adressed this...

  • nope. it had nothing to do with that. chigurh just liked the fate game. if he was really concerned about the storekeeper tipping him off to the cops, he wouldn't have played 'the game' and let the man live after he won. as for needing a reason...lol. chigurh kills if and when he feels like it, c.f. the scene where he killed the motorist after pulling him over in the police car. no "reason" whatsoever, except that he just likes killing people.

  • keep in mind: now that chigurh's let the man live, the man will DEFINITELY remember him (he was clearly terrified). if there was any chance before that he wouldn't remember chigurh, chigurh himself just destroyed that chance--AND let him live. the man now his the guy from dallas BURNED into his memory. this is inconsistent with the motive you ascribe, where chigurh is worried that the man might remember him and tell the cops.

  • He is one scary mofo.

  • javier is really good at hiding his spanish accent

  • He does a good job but, you can tell he has an accent

  • What business was it of his where Anton was from. He should keep his pig snoot out of his bidness.

  • Lol, notice how he didn't actually pay for the corn nuts OR the gas....? ahha

  • LOL So that was his plan all along, just scare the guy out of charging him?

  • Hey, it worked didn't it? Ha!

  • Indeed. I wouldn't have charged him.

Unless I happened to have a loaded 12 gauge stashed under the counter.

  • u people are funny and Javier Bardem is awesome.
