Does Chris use triggers? i know he hits the bass drum with some power when recording and his live stuff! but the bass drums in this sounds VERY "punch bag" like! very tight sound! any idea's lads?

I think he does use triggers, but you kinda need them because otherwise it'll sound muffled. Having said that, it might sound cleaner cause he uses 2 bass drums rather than using just 2 pedals. [wow, this didn't answer your question at all XD]

He also tunes his bass drums differently, one is higher than the other one.

you people saying its not hard have no musical knowledge. a song doesnt have to be hard to be felt. the goal is the make the listener feel the emotion the musicans try to convey. as a drummer myself many of my songs often have more rest than occupied notes or bars. sometimes simple is better. but with that we all know chris is not a simple drummer

The only people that think these drummers are good (meaning Travis Barker, Joey Jordinson etc) are people who are pretty useless at drumming . @929fightinIrish You can't hear the guitar, so you don't know how the drums fit with the song. Obviously it sounds somewhat repetitive without accompaniment because there are multiple verses and choruses. There are still breakdowns where Chris absolutely hammers on the drums. He's a magnificent drummer and while extremely technical, maintains an awesome feel when he plays. One of the few drummers that you can see smiling when he plays.

@Calibur43 don't forget that that sound is heavily mastered and processed. reverb, all sorts of stuff. and they throw all that random smack and reverb on the occasional random hit... don't drive yourself crazy trying to get that sound in your basement. it will never ever happen.

@Calibur43 Tighten your snare head like crazy. All the way it can go, Then learn to rim show perfectly and you'll get that sound. But its not healthy for the snare. Its that this is all in studio. So they fix up the sound and make it sound amazing : )

@JGsGotYourLunch its his snare.. mapex black panther. small diameter but has depth. yes its cranked tight for tuning. but the key there is tuning. And knowing how to use your strainers on your snare is also key. just enough to give it the tone of a snare and not a tom. hit the middle of the head, and perfect the rim shots and placement of them, for when used. im an audio engineer and its more about tuning. we use EQ to cover up what tuning cant.

@eatrocksah id imagine he'd be just as good, i mean his drumming is tight as hell, don't base his talents off of this song alone, he uses mostly his footwork skills in this song, so it doesn't sound like anything too special, but listen to their older stuff (ashes of the wake is my favorite), he tears the shit out of the drums. When you listen to some bands, all the drummer does is match the music beat for beat, chris on the other hand, plays creatively and puts a nice extra layer to the music
