Look in the background- how many of you recall Kukla, Fran and Ollie??It's really too bad that Karen carpenter didn't realize how drop dead gorgeous she was - she is gone -Kristy you were adorable back then too.
The "resolutions" are hilariously accurate: Karen did tend to crash Richard's dates, Richard did pick on Karen's clothes (he thought they either made her look too heavy or too thin), and the band WAS annoyed with the constant perfectionism. Glad they all had a sense of humor! I wonder who wrote these lyrics? The person posting "Carpenters at Christmas" only got up to part 7. mytie67, I'd really appreciate it if you picked up where they left off- this is much better quality, too!! :)
Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the church ... the first evidence of the feast is from Egypt." (Catholic Encyclopaedia 1911 edition)
There is no authoritative tradition as to the day or month of Christ's birth ... The winter solstice was regarded as the birthday of the sun and at Rome a pagan festival of the nativity of 'sol invictus' was introduced by the Emperor Aurelian on 25th December (Chambers Encyclopaedia 1970)
Wonderful show, we need more shows like this nowadays, QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT! TV NOWADAYS SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Karen and Richard were true stars, they both deserved to be them, they were nice people and temendously talented!
Apparently Richard Carpenter was thinking something along the lines of "Please shoot me" when he was doing these TV specials, it was just agonizing for him since he really was a little less gutwrenchingly clean than the public thought of him as. Behind that festive air he shows on camera here is a man experiencing psychological torture. Still a very nice, silly little clip though, good for nostalgia.
Somebody shoot me in the head PLEASE!!! Kristy was as beautiful as ever but every one else sucked. I only watched this because it was recommended for me God only knows why.
Redrum...I do not know what you know of age, music , and the composition of music. But The Carpenters were so talented and respected, that in the event you hold such a talent, please bless the world or check your education.
I called ABC Studios back in the 70's ..I asked for Kristy ... They asked who was calling I said I was her cousin...She Got on the line taled to her for 5 mins..She was flaterd...Sent me A post card Auto graphed by the Family TV series Cast also two passes to The Set .. She was awesome to talk too.. I got punished for racking up a phone bill of 10.00... I wanted to go,,But my parents said it's alot of money to go from NY TO CAL..
Richard and Karen's resolutions were pretty true to life according to the docu's I've watched about them. Karen used to be a constant third wheel on his dates, and Richard used to criticize her appearance.
I can't beleive I'm seeing this again for the first time since 1977. To this day my brother & I still sing the Kristy McNichol part. Wow - incrdible. Thanks so much. JE
It's pretty easy to say what happened: Sid Vicious, followed by Thriller and Boy George and Billy Idol and hitting the nadir with Nirvana. But it didn't start in 1978, it really started in 1964 with the Beatles and continued with the Stones and KISS and other 70s metal acts. I don't know why "menacing" became so popular.
I was 10 when I watched this on TV.......for some reason I always remembered the line "I resolve to borrow Farrah Fawcett's hair." Can't believe I can see it today on-line!
I don't remember much about this show (pre VCR) but I have always remembered Kristy saying "I resolve to borrow Farrah Fawcett's hair!"

The song is based on "Happy New Year" which was the B-Side of "Two Front Teeth", a Spike Jones million-seller of 1948!

Both of the Carpenter's Christmas Specials were uber corny and are extremely dated. At least Karen looked great here.

As corny and out-dated as this might seem now, This is Family Entertaiment that is very much missed and desperately needed now more than ever.
