I'm curious to know what prompted the split...
Irreconcilable musical differences, perhaps? Pressure of sharing a cramped tour bus with himself? Maybe he got sick of referring to himself as 'my backing band'. Anyway, it was on the cards by all accounts. Apparently he has been constantly bitching behind his back, hasn't spoken to himself since the first album, and can barely stand to be in the same room.
I look forward to the reunion tour (original line-up, naturally).
