@darkp00pie first some of them don't drop. Second you cant really kills spiders effectively with a drop trap due to their climbing ability. Third drowning traps will get your items stuck because you can only have a 1 X 1 square due to their sive

@Niblesess - You have to position and create the trap so that there is little or no place for them to go other than into the lava trap. I experimented with positions and water flows a bit before getting this to work correctly. Notch has changed the lava / water coding since this video and lava may not flow the same way now. I prefer a drowning trap but the lava traps work better for a spider anyways. Just keep experimenting and you will find the best configuration.

@Niblesess - You'll have to be brave young grasshopper. There are probably several spider cages around your area...you just have to find them. The best thing to do is wait until you hear them "screeching" and just dig in that area until you find the cage. That's only half of the task...then you will have to kill them and place torches on all sides of the cage so they wont spawn while you build a trap around the cage. Once you are done, remove the torches and start grabbing your drops.

nice...i gotta learn how to make this kind of stuff because right now as i type their are spiders on my cave and i am afraid of spiders and i'm scared to leave the leave for two reasons 1: i hate spiders. 2: i'm afraid i'll forget where my cave is ._.

@devoidfrog LMAO ok one if its that bad put it on peaceful mode then leave. Also You should mark things use touches, make a really tall stack of dirt and put touches on it or make a lava spire!

@devoidfrog you dont make lava, you find it underground (sometimes above ground) and you need a bucket to collect it. right click it, and the lava will be in your inventory, once you have found the desired location to place the lava, while having the bucket in your hand, right click the bucket of lava and it will place a lava resource block there. Be careful, and goodluck!
