Just like the Tiger, Panther and all the other NAZI junks it was too complicated to fix and maintain in a war. I was told once that the Germans are intelligent but not smart. There is a big difference between the two.

@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF the 4wd version was the schwimmwagen. The Germans used the schwimmwagen as a heavy jeep often, since it had AWD, was a bit more rugged, etc--being amphibious was just an added bonus (though it worked out very well)
@redreaper2020 an amazing vehicle the engine has to be the best motorvehicle engine ever produced ,the vehicle reffered to as the thing in the us is quite similar to this
@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF As an American, in all honesty, I'd say the K-bucket was better than the jeep. The vehicle was incredibly reliable, had a nice long-travel suspension, self-locking diff, etc., and was just a damn good vehicle that never got the reputation stateside it deserved.
there are no current figures to substantiate that 5,218 are in operation not even 528 typ 82's would be an overstatement do your research first by contacting the vw museum Bobby Johnson
tan buen vehiculo fue que sembro las bases para el polifacetico y practicamente indestructible VW vocho bug (beetle, käfer, etc) que aun circulan hoy en muchos lados
