For years I have been telling people that Agnetha's voice is the best in the world...with Karen Carpenter No.2...and both ahead of even the best operatic voices...my criteria have to do with sweetness of tone and emotional content as well as versatility, range etc. My very first record player in the UK had 16 rpm setting...so they did exist in the UK...mid-1950s.

This is the song that turned me on to ABBA it was on a 45 for those who do not know what a 45 is it is a small record ABBA'S songs will always remain on the music scene.

Your 45 of this song is quite rare. I think it was only released in France and Belgium on the Vogue label, and came out on October 11 1973. The B-side is He Is Your Brother. I'm not surprised you were coverted to Abba by this clever catchy song. Yes many Abba songs are timeless classics still regularly played today. I've still got lots of 33's & 45's, mainly Rolling Stones. I did have some 78's years ago.

45 is the speed in which the record spins at 45 RPM (revolutions per minute). Same with 33 1/3 RPM also referred to as Lps (Long Playing) and 78 RPM records. There were also half-speed ones which were 16 RPM.

Not heard of 16rpm before! These old vinyl records were played on a record player that had a long arm with a small needle on the end. The needle sat in the disc groove while the disc rotated at the specified rpm. The music came out through attached loudspeakers. The vinyl discs got scratched easily unfortunately!

Not many people have heard of Half-speed records. You might see the odd turntable that actually has 16 RPM setting on them.

I think the company that made these records was Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. They also made CDs called Ultradisc and Ultradisc II.
