  • This is probably the most beautiful song in the whole fucking world

    I ain't exaggerate.

  • I hope to see you all nowhere !

    = D

  • im happy im alive to hear this

  • Hey everyone, I just posted a video response with a tutorial for how to play the acoustic guitar part to this song! Please check it out if you're a guitar player and let me know if it helped you out or if it needs improvement!

  • you will go nowhere. I can't wait

  • I hope you're In a better place now, Elliott.

  • i will never stop listening to Elliott Smith, til the day I die. Truly a talent that can never be replaced or forgotten.

  • Oh Jesus. Here we go again Elliot.

  • New Moon, From a Basement on a Hill, and Good Will Hunting soundtrack.

  • can anyone tell m the albums that this song, twilight, and miss misery are on???

  • For anyone who loves Elliott Smith I recommend you check out COLTIN SAYLOR. His music is simply AMAZING, and for my money he is one of the best artists to emerge in some years! His album "Own Nothing" is simply brilliant, no question about it!

  • I have no words for this song.... today it's a grey day, but when I hear this song it makes me feel calm.... just stay calm.

  • Tks Lewis, loved this! :) I miss Elliott so much... :( Some artists just die to young... sigh... I still imagine a muic with Elliott and Jeff Buckley... would have been great!

  • i really love it <3

  • First time i hear this song. This part is playing:

"I felt like a kid of six or seventeen

I was off in some empty day dream

    Going nowhere"

At that exact moment i´m looking out of the window and i see a kid, happily running. Then he disappears out of my sight. I had to sit down.

  • Exquisite, lovely, and brilliant makes my time here a little less sad

  • So great

  • amazing. elliotts lyrics are so real. its like hes telling the story of my life

  • He waved hello. silent like a mime. ;)

  • But i don't weep, do you?

  • I'm goin' thru depression myself and this song pretty much helps

  • @HarryPotter87 dont worry my friend most of us have or are stick in there it gets better:)

  • @HarryPotter87 like, how much do they expect from us these days

  • This song reminds me of A.F.I's music. it's so amazing and makes my heart clench.

  • @kendrat199 wow.. comparing a loser emo band to a legend? letsbe real havok is gay... smith is not.. good day

  • @traemorgan18 The fact that you think A.F.I is emo just assures me that you don't know anything about music nor its categories. If you knew anything about A.F.I or emo music, you'd be able to see the distinction. A.F. I is punk.

  • @kendrat199 all i said is fat emo girls listen to AFI more than normal people do.. anyways.. and if YOU knew how to read i said dont compare a legend like ES to a loser like havok... he has gay hair and a gay voice and his new independent shit sucks too... AFI SUCK!!

  • Hell of a first video. Thanks for putting it up, I've never heard it before.

  • this is the most elliott smith-like elliot smith song

  • this is my favorite elliott smith song right now <3

  • this song changed my life...

  • beauuuuuuuuuutiful beyond words.

  • I love his music!!! it's just so breath taking!!! :D

  • that picture at the end makes me so happy

  • When he recoded this, was it with one guitar, or two seperate guitar parts?

  • @rissakrissa most likely 2 guitars, he did with most his songs.

  • @rissakrissa a lot of the time he doubled up the guitars and also double vocals

  • best double album ever.

  • @ysgaisyih

It definitely rivals The White Album.

  • Nope brother. Not invented. Shes torturing me daily though facebook, and txt. said her phone was cut off. But called me from her husbands. now hers is back on. and shell text. not call. It's all on me of course. My fault.

  • The first time I heard New Moon, I cried. Elliott Smith was such a gifted person ! A genius. I miss him.

  • @Aladinside The first album I ever heard from Elliott was "Either/Or" and tears were flowing from my eyes almost immediately. I knew in that moment that I was hearing something really special. After that I went on a mission to buy every album he ever made and each and every one had the same effect on me. His music has changed my life. In my opinion, there never was and never will be another man as talented and unique as Elliott Smith. I only wish he were still alive.

  • @stellarlove21 beautiful

  • Theres something about his soft songs that make me feel weightless.. His music helps me when I'm sad.. It helps me let my tears flow.. His music also helps me feel happy and like I have no care in the world.. I dunno where I'd be or what I'd be listening to if it wasn't for this man.. <33

  • I fell in love a half year ago. i found my soul mate. she was married. and was seperating. things got complicated. i moved in. he moved back. we all coexhisted briefly. then it all fell. I found she was 2-3 months pregnant. I named my son after elliott smith, and my grandfather. elliott charles gosnell. he died. she was epileptic. got stressed. and lost him. Ive had a mental break down. She told me a few days ago she was coming to live with me. then she was gone. all so sudden.

    rip, all 3

  • @GreatMindsProds Find no words of confort. Anything I might say would sound hypocrite or not well thought over. Just hope for some kind of miracle to save you from the worst distressing situation I've read about in a lot of time. 'Cause this is real, you've not invented it to impress us, have you?

  • this song is my lifeand many other right now hope we can get back on our feet again good luck everyone

  • Sometimes his music is medicine to my day. When I hear his music I can feel it through the goosebumps that feel like knives pushing on my skin. His music speaks volumes, and moves me immensely.

  • It hurts so much to hear this.

  • Elliott Smith is one of the rare singers whose music I feel confident I will still be listening to and finding meaning in for the rest of my life

  • I cannot believe 4 people voted against this.. obviously this beautiful piece is lost to such artistically ignorant minds.

  • People say Elliott's music is depressing but it's not. What bums me out are these terrible comments posted by a-holes that don't know jack-shit about real music and think their opinion is God's gift to man. I know I shouldn't look at them but I can't help it. Elliott Smith will always be great no matter what these douchebags say. Still, I read these comments and I grit my teeth at how ignorant and obnoxious some people can be. Why, Lord, why

  • great song

  • Great song. Should be the anthem for the economy.

  • @NYY82 LOOOL

  • It has a haunting, yet beautiful charm going on.

  • this song isn't very great in my opinion. just saying. just my opinion.

  • @BrieAnnOlivia your opinion is lame.. just sayin

  • sonic youth are still kicking and not fat lol

  • @subwiredesire Oo unnececarry comment of yours

  • Good God, what a great song. Elliott never disappoints. Ever. I could listen to this all day just for the into alone. RIP by brother.

  • The steps made a pattern i have never seen

I felt like a kid of six or seventeen

I was off, in some empty daydream

    Going nowhere.....................................

  • Elliott <3 I love you, always will.

  • I found this song by mistake... It's stunning :O

  • @xxthelastonexx One hell of a fortunate mistake

  • @NearXLifeXExperience it is! ::O

  • his music is the best

    and hes dead.

its sooo sad, i really miss his stuff.

    its amazing

  • Limousine Services LOL. sorry, sorry.

  • ....from a songwriter who deserves never to be forgotten.

  • you know R.D. Laing declared Syd Barrett incurable.

  • @mavidateeta incurable from what? he was a great artist ... even after floyd... people should change their concepts about cure... or mental illness..

  • damn, too beautiful. not this or that just embedded in some archaic thought sequence of so many people. Break up song of 2 yrs. :(

  • this is the BEST song, hauntingly sad and powerful.

  • Best song on New Moon.

  • That's nice. We like music.

  • @mayancarol

i dont remember this song in the movie

[then again the movie kinda sucked so i wasn't really paying attention]

what part of the movie was this song in?

  • @xxedarkangelxx

    The album. :P

  • to be more specific, the album New Moon by ES. Not the crappy movie about a sparkly vampire. <.<

  • @koyisxoxo

    oohhh ok :P

i thought the person meant the MR.sparkle one :P thanks for clearing that up :P

  • @koyisxoxo I have a new moon t-shirt (the album, not the crap) and people are like "that doesn't look a thing like twilight !" and then I get to say "that's because it's good !"

I hate when people assume that, though.

  • Your a dumbass sir

  • You, obviously, are NOT an Elliott Smith fan!

  • if any1 in the history of the earth has experienced the depth of emotion that must have been poured into this plz tell me cuz my heart cannot take much more

  • Oh no, a YouTube fight--I better cower in the corner before the slap-fight starts.

  • You mean Asperger's...No,I've had an etiological treatise published on the syndrome,however...

  • yet you cant use the space bar

  • Of the 9 different definitions the c-a-n-t word possesses in our language, leave it to the likes of you to misspell the only one you're familiar with by omitting the apostrophe. Can you spell "apostrophe"???

  • Yeah cause omitting an apostrophe is completely misspelling the word amirite?

And the people who use text speak are automatically less intelligent than those who don't, amirite? Stereotypes are great.

USE THE SPACE BAR AFTER YOUR PUNCTUATION

  • Obviously not as 'great' as this bizarre neologism:'amirite'.---A portmanteau word only one hopes (for all our sakes...)

  • @djnross Can I buy some pot from you?

  • @halorocka888 Abandon your need for psychotropics---save what's left of your mind.

  • @djnross Acquire the ability to pick up on non-subtle humor

  • @halorocka888 I assure you,in most instances, its a matter of developing a capacity to appreciate what historically has never been.

  • @djnross Try the space bar after commas.

Forgot to mention, this is a great song.

  • @djnross why do we have to save what's left of our minds? elliott smith was a drug addict and still was a genious... people should do everything they want.. cause everything must be on the law.... and stuff...

  • @utarefsonmetushelac Saving what's left of your mind ,may rescue you from being seduced by the tempting myth of martryrdom that often claims misguided geniuses.

  • this song is one of my favorite elliott songs aint no words to describe its beauty when i first heard it i think i cried for about an hour :(

  • Six years.

  • 6 years ago today.

  • Cool to see I wasn't the only one who noticed. I basically spent that whole day walking around downtown Olympia kicking through the autumn leaves listening to my favorite artist of all time.

  • this is so perfect. i am watching the tide come in and the morning sunrise from my window. with beautiful elliott to set the mood.

  • <3 love love love !

  • god, my heart aches and bleeds just hearing him

  • R.I.P. Elliot Smith

  • i love foever...

  • You silly Sassafrass moose knuckles should realize the only discussion here should pertain to...perhaps Elliott Smith and "Going Nowhere?"

  • wOULD IT WERE TRUE....but given your green-eyed malady, woefully I doubt you'd exhibit a redounding to the normative in so nimble a fashion.

  • damn this is so sad.......

  • Is there much yet to be known,OF COURSE?...Not a matter for contesting. The hallmark of science is revision---before,and after hypothesizing.

  • that's little wordy there, man. your 'extraneous verbiage' isn't impressive. If people can't understand what you're talking about they'll think you're a douchebag.

  • It's actually only rudimentary English grammar.Once upon a time, even grade school Americans had mastery of it.Now,adults are barely on a par with 5th graders.

  • get with the times and get off your high horse. I prefer my Hemingway to your Scarlet Letter.

  • The times of which you speak dictate 'dumbing down' as opposed anything ever penned by Hemmingway.I choose Pynchon over Salinger....

  • Idols Of the Cave-redivivus:if you're not used to having conversations with persons who use English articulately--at all!----it stands to reason that you'd be so alienated when reading it.

  • No, no no. I just prefer concision and plain english. I can hang with just about anything.

You just prefer your high horse. Go ahead and alienate yourself.

  • This is a public forum, not a PHD. 'Nuff said?

  • Who insinuated it was?(And you'd be referring to the Oral Examination for one's Doctorate---not the credential itself, mind you.)

  • heh - are you being obtuse and intransigent djnross? ;-)

  • I certainly hope not.But thanks for the pulse-taking,at any rate.

  • Don't score so high on the ol' emotional intelligence quotient hey bro? oh well, at least you've got a Shakespearean vocab.

  • An oxymoronic nonesuch. You've erroneously cobbled together 2 vastly diferent inventories for measurement, besides which, quotients for emotions and those for intelligence are conversely proportional.

  • And please, don't attempt to spout Dr.Goleman to me.I know Daniel Goleman better than he knows himself. He has merits. But he's an inveterate Flower Child who errs by having placed too much stock in R.D.Laingisms...!

  • lol - ever been told that you're way too serious?

  • Are you perchance insinuating seriousness is a type of crime?---And ,no.

  • Nah - just that you come across as a bit aspurger. A bit of a bore. Maybe something for you to be wary of. Just sayin'.

  • it's "Now, adults" not " Now,adults"

  • And believe me, as a lover of language, I enjoy a variety of words. I don't even mind being sent to the dictionary once in a while - learning new words is fun.

But as a general rule, using fancier terms for common things, or complicated phrasing in place of simple lucidity, is the mark of a frustrated ego, more than of a 'good writer'.

If you just use big words because you're able, you're nothing but a thesaurus on legs, and missing the point.

I imagine your fiction is insufferable.

  • Is there a live version of this song?

  • This video/song deserves better comments

  • nobody. comes. close. to. elliott. smith.

  • I can personally say that being depressed is something you cannot control, especially if it is genetic. I don't blame no one for feeling like crap from time to time, but there is a difference between a rut and and a genetic dispostion, I think in elliot's case, he was clincally depressed and there is nothing wrong with that. a tortured sould is the fuel behind creativity and insanity unfortunately.

  • This song gives me the chills everytime I listen to it, awesome song!

  • For a complete sense of musical balance, mix equal parts elliot smith and frank zappa. Listen to this depressing stuff, and then throw on "broken hearts are for assholes" off Sheik Yerbouti - nice.

  • haha never even thought of mixing zappa and smith. broken hearts are for assholes is a good song though. i just think of it hwen i start feeling down in a relationship

  • I'm laughing my ass off !!!!!!!

I spit bourbon all over my screen!!!!!

  • buena cancion un saludo desde Mexico very nice

  • Man this tune is great. Maybe a top 10

    Smith song for me.

  • elliott smith would kick joshua radins ass back to the disney channel

  • he gets me through everything. <3

  • There's no song I like more to hear. <3

Not only my mouth is singing with him - my soul too.
