In the 60's and 70's most James Brown concerts were held in big dance halls where you could really get down. Let's see who can relate to Cincinnati Ohio's Music Hall or Dayton Ohio's O'Hara Arena and Wamplers Ballarena! Great memories.
Like a lot of 45 singles, this is different from the album version- the album version doesn't have the "crowd cheer" and the"announcer voice over"- anybody out there know who that is? Great tune! Super heavy funk !! Hot hot hot and BAD!
The man is a Genius of the Music Industry. Throughout Tennessee he bought up Radio Stations to specifically play his records. But to his world renown band he was a devil being very harsh on them but many say that made them so much better when performing. God Bless him either way we lost a true master of his craft.
@catweazlex >You got that right and James Brown did not take no mess when it came to his band members! They had to be clean when they hit that stage or else! He believed that public deserved a good show and he expected them to perform the same way he did! I saw them at The Apollo so many times growing up and they were the bomb and so is this song!! Young folks today do not have anyone like James Brown today! He was and is the original Godfather of Soul and his band was the bomb!
...but when we didi wrong papa the hell out of us... "papa don`t take no mess" It remindes me of my childhood in Brasil when i used to listen to this while my friends were playing football inthe street.
the band is not playing, the music is sweet, and james is funny bad( "papa didnt cuss, he didnt raise a whole lotta fuss, but when we did wrong papa beat the hell out of us uhh")
Between earning money from these adventures, Brown taught himself to play a harmonica given to him by his father. He learned to play some guitar from Tampa Red (who was "dating" one of the girls from his aunt's house), in addition to learning to play piano and drums from others Brown was inspired to become an entertainer after watching Louis Jordan, a popular jazz and R&B performer during the 1940s, and His Tympany Five in a short film performing "Caldonia"
Isn't there at least one person who would happen to have the full length(14+minutes) of this jam from his 1974 double LP, "HELL"? If so, would you be so kind as to upload it for me
@TruthReveals87 yeah! i saw some record in a shop awhile ago i took a listen to it, it had soul grits or something in the title, he was on the rhodes, it was pretty bluesy i was surprised he could play!

MysticSonic007 10 months ago
@MysticSonic007 I think playing skins means playing drums or something.
