  • Paul Lynde her co-star starred these rumors that Agnes Moorehead was a lesbian.

  • Agnes Moorehead was a devout Presbyterian

  • "Permissiveness in society springs from a lack of standards. There must be a rule of behavior, an appreciation of basic values." Quote Anges Moorhead.

  • Agnes Moorehead was divorce twice, married to two men. She was not lesbian or wild, all she care about was doing what was right.

  • why does everyone have to be so hung up on a dead womans sexuality cant you all just appreciate the actress she was one of the most underrated finest actresses of her time R.I.P Agnes Moorehead

  • @nuttalex I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way <3

  • agnes moorehead and collene dewhurst...two of the most underrated actress of all time. they were so much more than just pretty faces. they could act and i mean act like it wasnt acting at all. they were both my favorites.

  • lovely tribute...

  • @marienoreene thanks again for watching :) It's good to see that there's always fans of her's 'springing up' :)

  • Christmas was defiantly her favorite season! She was a very Christian-like. She took her faith seriously. A great actress as well!

  • In her "prime", on radio [usually on "SUSPENSE"] and movies in the '40s, Agnes usually portrayed two types of women: the icy "sophisticated" kind, or the icy "neurotic" kind. Most often, they were self-centered and quite selfish (as in "Since You Went Away" and "Dark Passage"). But she was such a GREAT actress, she could bypass those kind of roles, and was convinving in ANY part she chose to play.

  • Agnes was one of the most engaging, and impressive women on the silver screen. If you haven't seen her in "Dark Passage" as the icy, conniving Madge Rapf-- you must. She is just captivating.

  • Isn't she though- honestly, I can safely say there will never be another person as magnificent as she was. Truly a lovely lovely lady.

(And yes, I agree 100% with you on her performance as Madge Rapf.- she completely outshines the other actors, as always, and has a really juicy part to play.)

  • now wait a min. - i said i wouldn't think anything 'léss of her-- that doesn't mean i think she was gay, because i don't, i just think it would of been a very personal decision. So, fan or not-- if agnes didn't feel comfortable saying, "i'm gay, bi, or just straight." then i believe we should all simply respect her for being the wonderful lady she was- and not get so hung up on her sexual orientation...

  • I have to disagree with ammccoy. I don't believe that she was gay at all i mean why would her gay friends say that she wasn't . that just dosen't make sense. Also she was a devout by the book christian, and no offense to gays or anything but it is technically against the bible to be gay if you were to read leviticus. I also have to agree with whoever brought up her husbands. I mean 2 divorces, really who would want to fall in love again after having your heart torn so many times.

  • He also could view her in an objective way and considered two faced at times but thought she was good people and said he still loved and missed her a lot. She was married 2 times. Jack Lee her first for 22 years (an "abusive alcholic" ) and Robert Gist 24 years her junior. He "dumped" her after getting his foo in the door of Hollywood.

  • I admire her work also and her personage. You are correct that she was very devout in her faith including bringing her Bible on the set of Bewitched and reading it in between rehearsals and left a huge chunk of her estate to John Brown University, a Christian college. When David White (larry Tate character) used profanity she told him, "Be careful David, God is watching."

  • Lesbi-friends @ 1:41

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

  • Yeah, I've heard that rumor about Agnes being gay~but for some reason I just don't think it's true. Now, don't get me wrong~I have no issue with people choosing to be gay and if she was I would still have a great respect for her, I mean that's something that is a very personal decision-- but it's just strange that all of her close friends flatly deny it (even those that are gay themselves) and also the fact that no one said anything until AFTER her death~ therefore couldn't comment on it... :-/

  • I'm inclined to believe that where there is smoke, there is fire... especially in old Hollywood. After the Hays Code was enacted (by right wing nutbags) gay Hollywood (and it was way gay) went into the closet and stayed there. I'm not gay myself, but that's why I greatly admire old Mr. Sulu, George Takei. It must have been terrifying for a guy his age to come out of the closet.

  • I agree completely , and it's sad that those people had to hide themselves and make up fraudulent lifestyles to accommodate their acceptance in society--but where Agnes is concerned, it's just a gut feeling of mine that she was heterosexual- I may be wrong, but again it's just my opinion. And I'll repeat, I admire her greatly and would have the same level of respect for her either way.

  • We'll have to agree to disagree. I always thought that she was a lesbian, long before I heard anyone else mention rumors to that effect... ditto for Eve Arden.

Of course, I could have been mistaking formidable for lesbian... but I don't think so.

  • All very true, I guess we'll never know for sure... but I think that's how it should be ;-)

  • I don't know for sure about her personal life, but all major evidence is she was hetersexual. I think there is a very active gay element that wants to belive she was gay. But Debbie Reynolds said in her book, that Aggie had 3 marriages and she (Aggie) would never love again because each one "about killed her" and she had lost so much finacially every divorce & had to start all over again, so preferred her life as a performer and teacher in Hollywood. But scanal sells and truth rarely does.

  • Hollywood, before the Hays Code, was openly as gay as the day is long. Then, fearing for their livelihoods, they all took up residence in the closet.

Personally, I can't see why anyone would be the least bit surprised that Hollywood was/is disproportionately gay. Gays have always gravitated toward the arts, performing and otherwise. Take a look around your local repertory theatre company and see for yourself.

  • Charles Tranberg's biography on her was very thorough. (I perceived him to be a gay man but I could be wrong) He interviewed the people who knew her who including a very open gay man, Quint Benedetti who was her road manager for 12 years for her one woman show and he was very adamant that she was not lesbian or bisexual as did Paul Gregory who directed her on stage and knew her for over 25 year also agreed that was never the case with Aggie.

  • Thanks for all of the feedback , let me know if you have any suggestions on anything. Enjoy the day! ;)

  • Lovely pictures.Wish Agnes and Elizabeth Montgomery were still here with us.

  • beautiful.

  • agnes moorehead truly was one of the most elegant and talented woman to grace the big screen and television. I think one of my favorite episodes ofbewitched was when she first met darrin. the way she looked when he opened the door you knew you were in the presence of a star. long live agnes moorehead in our hearts and our memories.
