The Palace Theatre, now home to Priscilla - Queen of the Desert. (I wish shows here In New York put things on top of our marquees, like the Grail or a stiletto)
@spicywinniepooh Are you only judging her performance from this video? Because, trust me, she is just as fabulous as Sara! (I, personally, prefer Hannah - but they are equally talented.)
It's so upsetting to see that this left London and that the planned UK tour was cancelled. Hopefully next year they put it on tour or at least bring it back to the West End soon.
My 70-year-old mother stood in line for over 2 hours just so she could be one of the first 100 people to buy tickets...her reward was a coconut! After the show she told me: that was the best show I have EVER seen! And she was right!
sara is better id say but my aunt was a costume person on the us tour when hannah and some of the cast came over, it was excellent, then i saw sara and them in shubert both shows were out standing
I saw the original cast on Broadway. Also, in english, we were watching the movie "Clue", and Tim Curry was in that, so it was weird to see him as young as he was then, and he is a lot older now.
Aw, yes . . . I see what you mean! My bad. Oops! He was a very funny and kind guy. I loved chatting with him. I worked an an agency that represented him.
OH MY GOD! THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZING, ESPECIALLY HANNAH!
I am SOOOOOOOOO impressed with how well these people sing just in rehearsal. OMG it takes my breath away. WOW!
I had the chance to see Spamalot with Hannah Waddingham and Clay Aiken and it was such an amazing combo! I just love these two people. They are so talented and so is everyone else in this brillant show!
Would have agreed with you two days ago. Then I saw the show last night.
It's truly bloody brilliant. Seriously gut-busting funny and wickedly entertaining....I was purist as you too apparently are. But Idle fully realized the spirit of Monty Python.
I was quite unsure this musical was going to be any good before it premiered. I thought....."oh dear, don't touch the brilliant film the Pythons (all of them) made"; but then I saw it and... well it is a top job. Although I have to say that the original cast was the best choice of actors. Here in London recent choices are a bit....wrong. It is damaging the musical.
Sometimes he reminds me of Brendan Fraser, mainly with the wig when he pulls those funny faces in 'The Song That Goes Like This' (Brendan Fraser in George Of The Jungle)
United States. I believe formally in March 2005 (correct me if I'm wrong). London saw the arrival of Spamalot in October 2006. In both places, Broadway and the West End (London) Tim Curry was King Arthur.
I listen to an interview I found that was a resource for a wiki called UNO where Tim Curry was actually interviewed. I think Tim said it started in England becuse it was done as the movie was performed. Then when it moved to the States some of the scenes were writtten outsuch as the whitch scene, and adapted it for Broadway when they putin scenes such a the song You Won't Make it on Broadway.
Sorry, I do not think there is a way. Anyway I am not savvy with that sort of thing. To correct my self it is not UNO that is another interview I found. The one I found is from American Theater Wing.
I want to see this so badly. The drama club went to see this in New York a few months ago, but I couldn't go with them. Makes me want to cry. U.U *sighs* Oh well, I'll see it one day. I forever praise the guy who brought this to the theatre.
I'm not sure it works in London. I heard that half the jokes in it are about Broadway. Then again, obscure cultural references never stopped some of us Americans from liking Monty Python.
It seems to work, only problem is all the new main casting, the musical itself remains very popular, but the new actors are....ahem, not the best choice. It might damage the musical quite soon.
I saw the London performance on the opening night (before the proper one with celebrities) and the whole audience absolutely loved it. We even cheered the chap who sweeped the stage during the interval.
Best bit was the end when we all stood up and cheered the cast who looked very taken aback by the audience's huge response. It was fantastic.
I was supposed to be there, that night......ahhh, couldn't go in the end...long story. I'm glad you had a great time, one of those 'once in a lifetime' opportunities in the theatre world :)
Lucky you! I feel so stupid, living in London, walking by the Palace Theatre every week of my life and I managed to miss it when Tim Curry was in the show. I wanted to get best tickets with a glorious view instead of watching from the gods and time passed quickly and lost my chance. Grrr... Never again.
Anyone interested in the full 45 minute show, please, do send me a message and I will reply you will the link to the entire documentary for the making of Spamalot. It is uploaded on a different website. I cannot post links here, so a Private Message is the only way. Cheers!!
This is a documentary focused on the making of Spamalot, so is more about Eric Idle, the Pythons, ideas that were never used and some bits about actors. Tim Curry's bits are pretty much all here, with the exception of a couple comments he made. I can send you by Private Message a link where you can find the whole show, which is 45 minutes long and is really great. You should see it!
Tim Curry is Nigel Thornberry! XD
