@LanSr1 Lefty wrote it and it became his first hit in 1950. Lefty was one of the giants of early country music. In 1951-52 Hank Williams Sr and Lefty Frizzell toured together. They considered each = as stars. They flipped a coin to decide who would be the headliner on given night. Willie pattern his singing style on Lefty.
Lefty sounds, and looks real good here - not an old, old man at all! The sound is slightly out of sync, but the video is first-rate, priceless time capsule of Lefty. Who in the world gave a tumbs-down to it?
we need country music videos with a dancing caterpiller lol. we need more of them these days in a world with a shitty economy lol. i gotta love it though
@terrisonb I agree with you. Early on, it sounded like he was trying to keep his voice too controlled and sing higher pitched than he should have. Later, he was more natural sounding and he really let go with his voice, especially the song "I Never Go Around Mirrors" - that's a great one!
If you like this kind of country music, check out Wayne Hancock's ''Tulsa" album. He cut his teeth on Hank Williams Sr. and Lefty Frizzell records. He's part of a small but very talented group of younger musicians keeping the old school country sound alive.
Truly Great! Harkening back to the best Country Music of the twenties and thirties as they matured into the forties and fifties, even sixties, before rock music invaded and corrupted Country Music, turning much Country Music of today into the worthless junk it is. There is still a lot fo good Country Music being made today, not all of it by the big record companies. Lefty is one of our American Country Music Treasures. More so than we know right now.
Innovations in country stylings were unkind to the honky tonk masters like Lefty and Webb. I'd love to see some Lefty from about '56. THAT was country music! This arrangement has nothing on the original. Still, as long as it's Lefty, I'll take it.
I'm going the list of the Golden Age of Country Music from Time Life and listening to my favorites listed there.
If You've Got the Money by Lefty Frizzell. This is a song that I still sing as a joke to my husband when he takes me out! This video is great! I love the older footage. Good memories. Thank you for posting this video!
Amazes me what you can find on Youtube. My mom sang with him and the band for a while, way back in the day. This music really brings back the memories.
My mother left me her LP's and Lefty was one of them. I believe she left me something beyond words, she left me the gift of what made her heart sing. I am only afraid that people younger than me won't understand or give due to a master.
I just referenced this song in a blog post

What's up with the horse sock puppet? Still slays modern country.

This sounds great. I think that Lefty's voice was better near the end of his life than it was early on.

What the hell is up with the Hee Haw rip-off at 0:52?
ArxVirtus 1 year ago
@ArxVirtus Why wouldn't this BE Hee Haw??
neverindoubt 1 year ago
@neverindoubt - Because at the very beginning it says "Country Carnival 1970," you dipshit. Why don't you open your fucking eyes?
Country Carnival was a show hosted by Del Reeves back int he 70's. It was definitely NOT the same show as Hee Haw.
