Alan Rickman is such a great actor! Severus had to seem like really bad and mean teacher, but truly he wanted to protect Harry (Ron and Hermione also). Do you see a little bit of a pain on Snape's face when he smack Ron? Severus didn't wanted to do that, but he was Dumbledore's spy, he had to. I don't know if Alan Rickman has done this face on purpose, but anyway it's just epic.
