  • I agree. I am English. Our locomotives are kind of in the middle - faster than the states but without the brute force. But with more character and heavy diesel power than our electrified european cousins! lol the sad thing is, Britain made the best trains in the world until around the late 60's when we kind of gave up :(

  • HA! Complaining of noise?? That's called MUSIC! Besides, I'd bet that the tracks were there BEFORE the complainers. So, if they don't like the music of nice two stroke EMD's, they should NOT BUY A HOUSE BY THE TRACKS! DUH!

  • @realvanman1 Totally agree!

  • @realvanman1 You have a point! :D

  • nice sound

  • beautifull sound, like in Trainz simulator - QR 2100 series (Queensland Railway, Australia) I love his voice :D

  • look at these comments!!! americans are arrogant people....there is world beyond america people.....get a life

  • Nice sound from the locomotive! It sounds very simular to the GP38-2.

  • @EWS60008 They are basically same as GP38-2, but an export version only.

  • I know what the problem is. It has a chink in it.

  • Nice 'noise pollution to have that is!

  • Ihr solltet langsam mal aufwachen und feststellen, dass der Dieselmotor für Züge längst überholt ist... Elektro is das Zauberwort.

  • I my gosh i am squriting its so horny!!!!!no

  • @holeshotholm417 Me love you long time!!!

  • @LGTheOneFreeMan hahaa

  • those asians must not be used to real diesels. LOL here in america thats all we hear!!! loud diesels

  • Yes I am an america locomotive fans. I have been watching US diesel photos and videos everyday for 5 years. I am sure what a real diesel is !! Very nice sound !!

  • The best Dieselloco ever is the German "Br218" :>

  • its a v12 and there are now 4 of them in operation here in aus numberd TL class

  • All 4 TL class are former KCR 52-KCR 55 (our locos), they are G12, and a lot differents from the KCR 61 in this video.

  • wow, you guys NEED new engines, I haven't see an engine running on a major US railroad that was THAT LOUD since...........ever.........WOW just...WOW

  • Sorry I am sure you are wrong, go and check those F series, GP15 series, and the very common 38 series. All Class 1 in US own at least thousand of these!

  • Let Me correct You, You Must Be 50 years Behind on it all, First Off There hasn't Been A F Unit Being Used On Class 1's or any operating freight line in the US Since the Early 1980's, GP15-1's are still used but many of them have been modifyed and The "common" GP38-2's Are still here, but there sure aren't as loud as that

  • Thanks alot but I think you must turned your volume to the loudest ! And I remembered that you said "since...........ever.........", so I am correct to point out the F seires.

  • Haha ..

  • well theres your problem! Put a turbo on it and it will quiet down a bit, personally i like the sound the way it is!

  • I don't think MTR would waste money on those soon retire locomotives.

  • 567 engine, not?

  • No. As seen from perious comment. 16-645E non-tubrocharged.

  • thanks man. Here, in argentina, we have GM GR12 locomotives, and they sound very similar. Regards

  • We had G12 also, but they were being sold to Australia in 2004 already.

  • yeah, we also have G12, but GR12 has 2boggies with 3 axis each one. I hope you understand the translation!!! You can find a video searching for: GM GR12 . Regards!!!

  • Yes I have watched some GR12 videos, also photos on Railpictures net.

  • I understand everyone has their favourite and something they hate. I love some EMD and GE units but I am not interested in others. However I would not say I hate them.

  • When it comes to class, brute force and air horns/whistles, American Locomotives has the rest of the world beat, sorry to say. When It comes to todays Hi speed, smooth Passenger service, thats where Europe steps in.

  • well said

  • Reasons are very helpful to back up opinions...otherwise they shouldn't be spoken...

  • Ah V8 in diesel. 900- 1600hp

  • GM 16-645E, 2000HP 100Km/h.

  • It's a V12 or V16.

  • They should evict all the residents that complained and let railfans live there :)

  • Good !!!

  • Yeah! Totally agree!!

  • WHERE IS THE LOCO VID. SHOT FROM?

  • A bridge ... Is that the answer you want ?

  • I think the reason it's so loud is the small pipes it's breathing through. The small pipe makes the gas velocity very high which explains the high frequency screech of the exhaust note. I'd bet with a larger diameter pipe the problem would go away...

  • Is the engine in the video original? To me, it seems not. In the 1970s such locomotives had a very silent bass sound, much quieter than series G16.

  • The engine is orginal.

  • Amazing sound! O_O

  • Totally agree !

  • I did that on the buffer stops at King's Cross with 37109 in Sept '99,has anyone got footage of that??

  • Oh yes ? Do it again please ~ Haha !

  • lol i have engines like this that pass by my house and are very loud but they sound great! they are made by GM and have the 12 cylinder 645E3C engines! sadly they are been scrapped to make way for new locos but there not all gone yet.

    /watch?v=sYkAHeqfa1c

    /watch?v=MQuiy0noRis

    /watch?v=D6xhnYz_eYE

the last video shows how loud they are from a long distance

  • Oh yes , the old EMDs make the similar sound too . The 645E3C series sounds more like a GP40 rather than G16 and G26 because GP40 series use the 645E3 series engine ^^

Thank you for your comment and the video links !

  • O ... Thank you ...

  • ......

  • maybe they were recording a sound of it for some of train simulators :)

  • Haha ~ I hope so ~ lol

  • The man with the microphone looks a bit like Jackie Chan. :)

  • XD~ XD~ Thank you !

  • The guy on the side looks like he has a microphone, trying to record the sound

  • Yea , but he failed , so you can see part 3 .

  • Sounds just like an American F-series diesel! What engine does it use anyway?

  • GM 16-645E , It should be the same as GP38-2 .

  • lets see 1 nuetralizer in forward ? 2 release brake 3 put in notch one 4 away we go !! ? no ?

  • Sorry , I don't understand your question .

  • Sorry , I deleted your comments accidentally as I am going to click the "reply" ...

I am not a train crew and I don't know how to start or control a locomotive correctly . And KCR was just having a noise check at that moment . Thank you .

  • Nothing , just the sound .
