Also, learn what you did wrong? Maybe you need to explain it further, because as far as i'm concerned you put this video up for profit when ad sharing is available. perhaps you need to teach a life lesson in the video as you so describe to prove you are doing what you are trying to do. I have no respect for someone trying to get other chasers in trouble. you video tape us and tell us about it. clearly that's harassment and personal vendetta on your part.

  • @boik02 It's sad to see the new generation of chasers placing profit and self-promotion ahead of public safety. I call out bad behavior not to embarrass the guilty (names are never mentioned) but to influence newbies into not emulating these actions. I admitted my chasing mistake (the first big mistake in 25 years) so that others might learn from it. Your defiant attitude, however, clearly shows how immature you are and that you just don't get it.

  • @ModulateThis

Placing profit ahead of public safety? Not the case. many of us like to be close. We document the event. Many chasers I know that have profitted from such events donated to red cross in returns to help are of tornado destruction. IE Alabama. You might think we are all selfless, but the fact you are so hard headed to say that we all operate like a corporate enterprise is ridiculous. Our driving during a tornado event might be fast, but I assure you is not DANGERING anyone.

  • @boik02 If you've ever seen my talks or writings you'll notice I don't "bash" chasers who like to get close. Rather I show the potential dangers of getting too close --dangers I just faced and fessed up to publicly. I've had chasers question my "loyalty to the fraternity" because call out bad behavior. Well that's what instructors are supposed to do. Teach good technique and discourage bad technique. This is my first big mistake in 25 years. I consider that a pretty good track record.

  • You could've become airborne debris, which could've struck another vehicle, somebody's home, or a business. Really Chris...for all the bashing you've done over the years, this is un-fucking-acceptable. Parking lot is a shit poor excuse.

    You fucked up.

  • @passiontwist Love it! ;-)

  • @passiontwist Shane, obviously I fucked up. In 25 years of spotting and chasing, however, I have never had as much as a hail ding. This time I got too close to a suddenly right-turning storm and was caught in its outer circulation. The same thing has happened to many other chasers --Amos, Reed, just to name a couple. I was parked because I thought I was well clear of the storm.

  • Thankful you made it out uninjured Chris.

I ALWAYS enjoy your WX-CHASE posts and hey- you DIDN'T endanger anyone but yourself and that was purely by accident.

Without ever performing a mental evaluation on you (grinning- I'm not Sidney Freedman)- I know that no one in their right mind wants to be in front of one of these swirling behemoths!

  • I only comment about chasers who endanger other people's lives while stressing the importance of safely operating around severe weather. In Tuesday's storm I was endangering nobody. Just sitting in a parking lot. I did, however, lose situational awareness when the storm turned and was caught off guard --as were many other experienced chasers that day. I'll be back out spotting soon and will continue to report illegal behavior to law enforcement --as *everyone* has a responsibility to do.

  • @ModulateThis Why would you do that? As if seeing your life flash before your eyes for an adrenaline rush is not enough?

  • So, after all the shit you have given chasers over the years about being unsafe and reckless, threatening to video tape them and turn them over to authorities to get us arrested you get yourself hit by a tornado? Nice...

  • @AeroStorm911 Was he placing other people in danger by being safely parked? Was he passing in a NO PASSING zone? Speeding?

  • I uploaded the full-resolution video. Search:

"Calumet, Oklahoma tornado dashcam front-facing camera May 24, 2011"

  • Allen, I'll post the raw videos from each of the six cameras recording it in a little bit. Today I'm busy cleaning all the glass and mud out of my car! ;-)

  • Too bad you can't just show the video image rather than all the other stuff.
