Russians never were cossacks. If you mean Russian Empire(1721-1917) then you should know that Helsinki and Warsaw were part of Empire, as Kuban, BUT nor cossacks or finnish people - never were Russians. Today Russian Federation iz Adygeya, Dagestan, Tatarstan, Yakutia,.... all of them are "russsians" but cossacks are not russsians. Cossacks are Ukrainians. Check it out:

This is definitely a Ukrainian song. It is basically all in Ukrainian. Kuban Kozaks heritage is definitely Ukrainian. The Ukrainian Kuban Kozaks were basically forced to migrate to the Kuban region when their homeland area was destroyed. Kuban is in modern-day Russia, though their heritage is definitely Ukrainian.
