Dear Tsunku, please give America one more chance. I really wanna try my hand at being a Japan Idol, and I already know a little Japanese. I swear I wouldn't let you down.
I think that people seem to confuse mispronunciation with bad singing. They're not actually terrible singers. Danielle actually has a really good voice (see Akagumi 4; even with a couple lines, she blew Maki Goto out of the water imo), and Mika+Ayaka were decent as well.
they probably couldn't express the song properly because they didn't understand Japanese. And even if Mika and Ayaka understood and spoke the language, they were just starting and their voices were not trained properly. At least Mika and Ayaka understood what they were singing while the other three had no clue. But because 4/5 of the girls were of Asian decent they probably would have blended in with the Japanese culture if all of them could have spoke the language.
Compared to Morning Musume, it's not very different. People are way to hard on Coconuts Musume. I think this is a great song.
If Coconuts Musume wasn't formed, there would not be the same Mini Moni. There would be no English Lesson with Ayaka. There would have not been a great Akagumi 4, Danielle had a powerful voice.
People should think twice before posting retarted posts. Focus on the positive things in life.
@Rami22789 They were a group before Coconuts and sung on Hawaii and then I think Makoto saw then in Hawaii asked Tsunku to add them so it wasn't their fault, and if you see Jounetsuyuki Miraisen, it's really good! The Coconuts girls want back and will ask Tsunku on Twitter (the say so on their Twitter's) xD

the reason i think that the Berryz version is better is of course because the accents, and also because in the Berryz version the girls have more emotion (and more power in the later concert versions) in their voices. part of that probably of that might stem from the fact that most of coconuts have no idea what their singing about, but some of the girls in coconuts just sound bored...but their later songs sound better than this vocally.

It was the end of 90's, not the most flattering fashion. Low budget and nervousness also surely did not help them. This was also before Autotune. Some people are way too hard on others.

I find it alittle funny that the song is in Japanese. But they filmed this PV in Taiwan. They are Obviously infront of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in some shots :P
Well, H!P was around but they didn't call it H!P. There was also Morning Musume, Country Musume, Melon Kinenbi, Tanpopo and Shel-Doki at this time.
Also, keep in mind this WAS 1999 and this was intended to be a B side, so it didn't have very much effort put into it. As far as B sides go, this is pretty good. =-/

About the quality of the PV; This single was released a mere 9 days after furusato. I dont know how many have seen the video, but take a look; the quality and the general look were the same. This , as Iantheparty said, was a pretty standard release for H!P At the time.

The PV is pretty typical of a H!P pv of the the time, shots of the around the city. Exactly what was done for Morning Coffee, Furusato, Summer Night Town, etc. It's not some strange terrible unheard of pv. It's exactly what Hello!Project was doing at the time.

Wait a minute - this is about a year before Mika joined Mini Moni. All through Mini Moni, Mika was fluent in Japanese. You can't just learn to speak a language fluently in a year, so she must have been pretty good at this point in time - and before.
Mika learned japanese from her mother when she lived in Hawaii, but she was not fluent, as she herself stated in a an interview when CM first started. She improved on the language when she joined Mini Moni. And yes, if you already are learned in a language, you could probably become nearly fluent by that point in time. She was good, she just wasn't fluent. Ayaka lived in Japan, and then moved to Hawaii, Mika lived in hawaii her whole life. See?
also you have to keep in mind that if you are surrounded by a language or certain custom you pick up on it really quickly. if you only knew a little bit of Japanese then moved to Japan, i bet you that your Japanese would improve a lot in a month let alone a year so it is possible that Mika was able to learn in just a year.
the song sounds slow when they sing it, but the version w/ momoko, saki, and maasa is much more better and faster..... they are kinda boring, no offence....
Thats if you like upbeat music. This was meant to sound sort of 'lazy' because the groups concept was hawaii, a place they liked to advertise as having an 'endless summer'
Ayaka is full japanese, she moved to Hawaii in her early teen years though. Mika is half Japanese (mother is japanese)and Australian (fathers's side) and born in Hawaii.
awesome song, with a not so nice PV...they do it better than the Berryz. I wish April and Chelsea got to sing more...Chelsea was, hands down, the best singer in the group, with Danielle as a close second.
I hate the Berryz Koubou version. I think if Coconuts Musume redid this with then it would have been better. I'm thinking you think it sucks because of the video and fail to realize the timeline of the video.

Well yeah. She can speak Japanese now, but at this Halation Summer time, she wasn't able to speak Japanese.

I'm pretty sure that Mika could speak fluent Japanese right from when she was a kid - or thereabouts. Her mother is Japanese.

no, she couldn't. Her mother knew english, and never bothered to fully teach Mika japanese. Mika knew some japanese, but she was not fluent.

Wait a minute - this is about a year before Mika joined Mini Moni. All through Mini Moni, Mika was fluent in Japanese. You can't just learn to speak a language fluently in a year, so she must have been pretty good at this point in time - and before.

Mika learned japanese from her mother when she lived in Hawaii, but she was not fluent, as she herself stated in a an interview when CM first started. She improved on the language when she joined Mini Moni. And yes, if you already are learned in a language, you could probably become nearly fluent by that point in time. She was good, she just wasn't fluent. Ayaka lived in Japan, and then moved to Hawaii, Mika lived in hawaii her whole life. See?

also you have to keep in mind that if you are surrounded by a language or certain custom you pick up on it really quickly. if you only knew a little bit of Japanese then moved to Japan, i bet you that your Japanese would improve a lot in a month let alone a year so it is possible that Mika was able to learn in just a year.

the song sounds slow when they sing it, but the version w/ momoko, saki, and maasa is much more better and faster..... they are kinda boring, no offence....

Thats if you like upbeat music. This was meant to sound sort of 'lazy' because the groups concept was hawaii, a place they liked to advertise as having an 'endless summer'

Chelsea and Danielle are. April is Filipino, while Ayaka and Mika are half Japanese.

Ayaka is full japanese, she moved to Hawaii in her early teen years though. Mika is half Japanese (mother is japanese)and Australian (fathers's side) and born in Hawaii.

awesome song, with a not so nice PV...they do it better than the Berryz. I wish April and Chelsea got to sing more...Chelsea was, hands down, the best singer in the group, with Danielle as a close second.

I hate the Berryz Koubou version. I think if Coconuts Musume redid this with then it would have been better. I'm thinking you think it sucks because of the video and fail to realize the timeline of the video.
