  • Kiki Friedman's version is good

  • Ira Hayes..Ira Hayes...

  • Very well sung. Been a fan of Peters since the 60s, a few sing it, including Cash (a great version) but none come near the original

  • True. It's a pity we don't hear more of his music.

  • We had a honored celebration and remberance for Ira Hayes ibn Scaton, Arizona recently. He is honored every year.

    Angle'a Ashes?

  • cash sang it but peter la/farge wrote it

  • Peter La Farge also sang it very well.

  • Thanks for posting. Love all your songs Raymond.

I get a lot of pleasure from you singing.

    Larry

  • Thank you, Larry, and thanks for subscribing.

  • Thanks, Max. It's certainly one of Peter La Farge's best songs.

  • Never heard this before, though I'm aware of its existence. I grew up in Tucson; about 75 miles north, at an I-10 rest stop I visited frequently, is the only memorial to Hayes I'm aware of -- just a tiny plaque to note his birthplace. It was one of my first exposures to history. I'm grateful to you for this rendition.

  • I'm sure you'd know it if you were a fan of Johnny Cash. That's where most people have heard it. Thanks for your comment. Made me realise I hadn't replied to any of the comments here!

  • nice rendition Raymond; I'm very happy to see you again on you tube. that's all that I love.

    salutations de France,

  • Great song choice, Raymond.

    One of my favorites...

  • Thanks, Lost. Mine too.

  • What an appropriate choice for Memorial Day!

  • And I didn't even know that!

  • excellent rendition of this song. Johnny Cash introduced me to it. I hope to get a Peter LaFarge album someday.

  • I've got two of them. I really like his singing style.

  • Great song Raymond. The film 'Flags of our Fathers' is excellent and a must for anyone interested in 'Ira Hayes'

  • A belated thank you for your comment.

  • Thank you for posting this video on the day that we Americans are celebrating Memorial Day.

    Semper Fi!

  • You're welcome, but I have to admit I didn't realise that!

  • Great song Ray! The feel of it came through loud and clear. 5ed and faved!

  • Hello

    Raymond...

You've done a splendid rendition of this ode to Ira Hayes...a story song that never fails to give me chills. Thanks for perfoming it in a pure and unadulterated manner,as usual. I only wish there were more songs such as this written for today. The poignant and relevant message in this song is priceless, indeed. I am forever grateful to you for performing it here... passing it on to the next generation.

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • Great job Raymond, i really liked it.
