Never heard this before, though I'm aware of its existence. I grew up in Tucson; about 75 miles north, at an I-10 rest stop I visited frequently, is the only memorial to Hayes I'm aware of -- just a tiny plaque to note his birthplace. It was one of my first exposures to history. I'm grateful to you for this rendition.
