The BMW Z4 has cleaner more aggressive lines, an exaggerated hood length to give it a more powerful look, and the most aggressive BMW front facia ever. I have always found soft tops look girly with the top up, so bonus points to BMW for the hardtop. Even the audi interior follows the bulbous style, yuck. Winner = BMW.

if they are going to compare cars, then they need to compare the BMW with the automatic and not the manual. Comparing 0-60 times of an automatic audi vs a manual bmw is wrong. If they compared the automatic version of the Z4 to the Audi there would be no comparison, the bmw is faster. That is probably why they didn't do it......biased.

The Cayman is not a convertible damn it! Why bring up cars that are not even that similar! Fixed roof vs no roof? And of course there's a premium for a convertible that's why the Z4 and TTS don't offer similar performance at the same price level as the Cayman.

@aalderni Agreed, the interior and exterior are stunning IMO. These reviewers are asshats. At the end they dismiss the cars because they aren't in the same performance league as a Cayman? WTF? This comparo is about convertibles - compare to the Boxster if you must. Anyway, both cars in this review have their strong points - the Audi has AWD and the Z4 has a hardtop. For my money, I'd probably take the Z4 as the ride is better and the entire car is more comfortable. It looks better too IMO.

usually audi scores well on its interior but BMW did well this time.who gives a fuck about 0-60 thing all the time?you wont have friends that dragrace you all the time. the audi has a fantastically tuned enginw despite its #of cylinders. but the 4cylinder isnt intrusive as the traditional sportscarlike straight6.but i think if i had to choose a tt,i would definitely get audi's legendery 5 cylinder engines in the TTRS. but i HATE cars that understeer, i LOVE oversteer so i would stick to the BMW

Not sure why they presented it as if Audi answered BMW's new Z4 with their TTS. The Z4 is newer...and better. I shopped both and decided on the Bimmer. The TTS is a good car but the price is seriously too much for only a 4 cylinder and I wanted a more powerful engine.

@BlakStrakt It's a great engine, but one has to rev it up like crazy to get anything from it.  I test drove it a few times and for city driving, it really is as the review stated: quite sluggish. The BMW on the other hand has readily accessible power from very low rpms. In the end, the BMW simply has more power and since both are quite close in price, makes more sense and is more justified in paying for a 6 vs 'just' a 4 cylinder engine.

well i have a 09 tts and my friends dad has a 10 z4is, the bmw looks great with the hardtop, but the tts just manuvers like no other. The audi also pulls the bmw. But both cars are great. But if you're going to spend about 53 k for an audi tts, go with a year old bmw m3, more bang for the buck

The closing comment on the Cayman is way off - the Cayman S is nearly $30k more expensive than the TTS once you option them equivalently, a 50% price difference, and if you look at the Car and Driver Lightning Lap in the Jan 2010 issue, the TTS actually beat the Cayman S through the corners and gave up time in the straights to the CS's extra 60hp, but even then the CS only lapped 1% faster for 50% more money. The TTS is also way better appointed - I'll take the TTS every time.

I'm actually not that young and I've seen the difference between a 4 Cyl. 4wd and a 6 cyl. rwd by myself. Specially driving up a hill during wintertime with 1" snow.

A car is not only about the engine. I know that BMW build awesome engines and even better transmissions. And yes, they are fun to drive. But Audi has come a long way and their sport cars are already at the same level.

Design wise I would take an TTs over the Z4 everyday or the S5 over the M3.

On roads they're 1:1.

Both of these cars are beautiful machines including the cayman, they mentioned at the end. However, what they did forget to mention is the mpg for the cars, and audi wins by far with the TFSI 4-cylinder engine. theres no doubt the v6 engine of the BMW sounds good, but I would choose the better looking interior, better mpg, and a car just as quick as the BMW any day of the week, but that's just my opinion... Not to mention the power of quattro in non-perfect conditions
