Democracy and Republic are often taken as one of the same thing, but there is a fundamental difference. Whilst in both cases the government is elected by the people, in Democracy the majority rules according to their "whims", whilst in the Republic the Government rule according to "law". This law is framed in the Constitution to limit the power of Government and ensuring some rights and protection to Minorities and individuals.
God bless you, my home state of Missouri, your home State of south Carolina and all of the South. You must visit Missouri sometime. We are a beautifus Southern State. Deo Vindice
Somehow life feels defferent down south compared to north, it reminds me of my homeland Ukraine, country living, family oriented and more injected with life, joy and patriotism, the people are much nicer downthere too.
Some people take longer to see what's before them than others. That's ok. The majority of our people will come around. Conditions are forcing them too. The assualt on our rights and culture is just too great. And as a part of this empire we have no real recourse.
Beautiful... right up to where you get back in your rut of "free the South".
Look, I love the South. I love my own state, Alabama, in many if not all or more of the ways you describe your love for South Carolina. I believe the South deserves more specific credit for what it has contributed to the world and American culture as a whole.
However, it is not 1860. We do not have the whole of the nation stacked agaisnt us as a people, as aculture, and as an ideal. We are not locked out of our national government. We aren't intentionally being suppressed either. If we fear our Southern heritage is slowly vanishing, it is not because of Washington so much as it is our OWN fault.
If the government is impeding our right to display our Southern heritage and pride, it is not the Feds, it is our state and local governments. Many of these have been hijacked, at one time or another, or maybe still are, by people who are outsiders, or at least their ancestors were. These people don't share in our heritage, therefore thay see no need for it. Thus, they are put in power by our own stupid voters, from which they proceed to destroy who we are.
If you think the government is stamping out the Southern culture, look to your local and state governments, check the candidates' records, vote carefully, and then demand that such privilages be restored without further ado. Secession is just and true. It is, as you said, the right of every free people. However, it is not a ready weapon. It is to be treated like a nuclear weapon: a last resort, last defense, last straw weapon. The South did this, even in 1860.
The Northern and Southern people were divided over many issues for many many years. In fact, even as our Founding Fathers signed the Constitution in 1781, we were divided into North and South. Our Southern ancestors put up with alternate views in the North for nearly 100 years. It was only in 1860, when the Northern ideas for how the country should be ran finally achieved its century-old goal of breaking the stalemate in Washington between the opposing parties.
They had control in Congress from the beginning, thanks to their population bonous. However, they were unable to reform the government to meet their desires because the South held the White House. Finally, in the election of 1860 (when the Southern Democrats were divided amongst their candidates) the North was abloe to put a non-Southron in the White House. NOW, and not before, the South was completely barred from the Federal Government.
Pro-Southern judges, who were nonbiased, but interpreted the Constitution the way the South did, could put up a struggle, but in the end could ultimatley be replaced by the president's choice. Folks, there was no doubt now that the South was at the mercy of a government that could ultimately destroy the Southern way of life... and it could do it legally (by the way the Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution). It was in this scenario, that the South was out of options.
If it wanted to survive as a people and culture, it could not stay in a government that had great potential to become toxic to the Southern mindset. This is the extreme scenario that warrents secession as a valid option. It is the same extreme scenario that chased the Colonies from the British Empire in 1776. So far, it has not re-arisen.
There may come a day, and I'm sure there will for all nations stray from their foundations from time to time, when secession is called for again, but it is not this day. There may come a day when our unborn children call from their own inexistance to defend what they will one day inherit at birth, but it is not this day. There may come a day when the survival of everything we hold dear hangs in the balance, BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!
I bid you, Southern brother, to stand up for your heritage and what you are proud to call your own. I bid you to stand up and proclaim in a loud voice that you are not ashamed of who you are or where you come from. I bid you also to stand up and be heard in your cry for the re-kindling of what the South once meant to its people. But this I also charge you: know the day when your cries for secession are needed and NECESSARY to make these things possible.
AS, if this is not the day then that day will never come. Obviously we disagree so I'm not going to argue with you about this any longer. You seem to have the idea that things can be fixed when I believe they can not while under the empire. The greatest enemy of our people is the federal gov't, without a doubt. It invaded us. It keeps our borders open against our will. It allows millions of kids to be aborted. It is our single greatest enemy. AS, we're pushing forward. I hope you join us oneday.
I told you. For abortion and such, look to your state governments, the ones run by carpetbaggers and scalawags. The Federal government may have been our enemy once, and it may be once again in the future. Such is the up and down nature of a democracy encompassing 300,000,000 individual takes on life. We are neither rendered silent nor ignored on the floor of Congress or in the White House. Florida, was the state that decided the 2000 election for Pete's sake!
You're right that we're not totally helpless, AS. But what would happen is Florida or SC banned abortion? It would immediately be over-turned by Federal judges. A democratic law would be thrown out. That's not freedom man. One small point, we're not a democracy. We're a Republic. Democracies have neither representation nor constitutions. In a democracy 50.1% could legally vote to kill off the other 49.9%. That's why our ancestors created republics.
You can't just leave because things aren't going your way. That's called a confederation, where independent sovereignties may take it upon themselves at any time to leave for any reason. Our ancestors tried that with the Articles of Confederation. Didn't work.
Our entire way of life is under assault. Take your head up out of the sand man. Seriously! We have 40 million invaders in our land. We have a Court system that dicatates to the people. Disguise it how you want, but that's what it amounts to. And we have a Constitution that was utterly destroyed in 1861. I'm sorry you fail to see the dimise of our land. But in another generation or two there will be none of us left and it won't matter if we don't act now.
I'm sorry if a non-anarchaic government offends you RedShirtArmy. Trust in this: if the South is EVER threatened, by way of custom, law, war, or politics, I shall use all that I am to defend it in the best way possible. The fact is, there WILL BE competing ideas in a democracy. You CAN NOT please everybody. Things WILL HAPPEN that YOU DON'T LIKE. LIVE WITH IT, AND QUIT BLOWING THIS OUT OF PROPORTION.
I'm hardly a anarchist. I'm a South Carolinian and a Southron. As such, my loyalty is the same as my ancestors - to our people, our State and the South. The Feds are our enemies. They have been since 1861. It's sad that some Southrons do not see this. How long do we want to remain an occupied country?
If we were occupied, there would still be civil strife and the US army would have tanks parked on our bridges and city streets. How long will some of our Southern brethren remain locked into a paranoid past?
No, you cant please everybody. Not when youre ruling over nearly a third of a continent. The United States is NOT a democracy;the people vote on no issues, they vote on which corporate puppets should rule them for the next four years. America contains many different people and cultures;they should not all be ruled by the same government, because they have different beliefs. Read a newspaper! Our way of life+those of other American cultures are being squashed by a globalist, corporate government.
Democracy and republicanism are not mutually exclusive. A democracy is a system wherin the masses decide what happens governmentwise. A republic is any form of government with no monarch.
no. A republic has a fixed body of law that is adhered to at all times. A democracy (like we have now) is the supposed complete will of the people. Nobody pays attention to the constitution except when it benefits them because we aren't a republic just a centralized democracy. Democracies always break down into oligarchies wherein' the rich and powerful persuade the people to go along with whatever they want. There are really 2 forms of government, oligarchy (current US) or republic (old US).
I'm a native Hoosier who has lived in Kentucky and Florida. I have been to SC several time and stayed in Columbia several days this summer. I prefer southern cultural and plan on moving south permanently. I believe seccesion is viable. I believe this nation has become empire driven and owened by corporations. However, will I be welcomed in SC since my wife is a black american?
There are a couple different peoples native to South Carolina. The National Majority is European (largely Celtic). We are 66% of the population at present. There are also small native Indian tribes, 1%. The Gullah people on the coast who speak another language. And the Black Minority (30%). Those are the native groups of the State - present at the time of our founding and since.

He had only his cane, and apparently he used to swing it at anyone who got too near him! LOL I guess the destruction of his country and people was too much for him.

1. Abortion is being handled currently by the states, not the Feds.
2. If a DEMOCRATIC LAW is overturned, it is due to a majority in opposition. Such is Democracy's nature.
3. We are what's called a Democratic-Republic. Meaning, we have no single ruler and everyone (even minorities) gets a say-so.
4. The Constitution spells out that though the majority rules, the minority IS protected.
