@DiscoPeace YOU GOTTA MOVE, WILD WIDOW and I´M A WOMAN are fantastic disco vocals, the best stuff I´ve ever heard in this genre! The voice is incredible, the performance is stunning, her looks too, and even the songs themselves have a meaning and great lines! As far as I know, there are no other disco songs of this quality out there (if I´m wrong, please tell me, I like to learn). She did only record this 3 disco-funk-vocals, did she (her other songs, great too, are ballads, correct?)?
@wmjahn "To Die Of Love", "Life Is Fascination", "It Happens" and "Let Me Be Your Comfort" from her album "I'm A Woman" I would consider as disco-funk-vocals as well. The clip of "You Gotta Move" found on YouTube from Musikladen is much better than the single-version. She sings live and powerful during that performance. Unfortunately they decided to mix her vocals way too low on the studio recording of it. No idea why.
@DiscoPeace Thanx for the info! I already assumed that I have to get me a copy of the I´M A WOMAN LP on ebay, now that I read your post I definilty will do as soon as possible! :-)
I read somewhere that this LP has been produced by the same people, who did BONEY M. and DSCHINGHIS KHAN and it shows: the same funky instrumentation, but what lifts Etta´s songs over most other vocals from that era is that the songs have something to say, too (without being didactic). Etta LIVE is a VOLCANO! :-)
@wmjahn I’m pretty sure you will not get disappointed! The album wasn’t produced by the same people who produced Boney M. (F.Farian) or Dschinghis Kahn (R.Siegel). It was produced by Milo Decoster. The material on the album wasn’t actually Etta’s choice of music at all (gospel and jazz). It was the record companys choice. It ended with Etta taking legal action towards the record company, as they had promised her that the following album(s) would be in her style. They wanted her to do disco.
