Their are many NGO that can help instead of the usual big orgamizations

which give a small pittens out from billions of donations. Try this NGO Choctaw International Foundation

Got a change-jar or two? CoinStar machines in major grocery chains will take their contents as donations to charity(ies) like Red Cross. You'll get a spiffy receipt (useful for NEXT tax season), and a nice warm feeling.
