Mr. Ray Price deserves the title " Mr Country Soul Singer " of all the singers, he does it right tune after tune. He just adds that something special to his selection of tunes. No one on the scene today could carry a tune like Ray can. Yes, the pedal steel player, Buddy Emmons adds that special element as well. What a treat to hear Ray Price belt out a great country song. He is truly a National Treasure..A treat to hear and a double treat to see him in concert...
This is country music !!!!!!!! Just listen to that pedal steel guitar from who else but the most tasteful player that has ever and will ever lay his hands on this instrument.
I love that song. And, who better to sing it? I found it by the Seldom Scene as a bluegrass number. And written by Hank Thompson? Has to be a winner. ...Bill
What a GREAT song! There will never be another voice like Ray Price. I wish Nashville would get thier heads out of thier rump, and bring back real Country Music like this. Todays so called "country music" is not even close to what Country Music should sound like. Todays Country Music stars, don't even sing Country Music, they sing Pop Music, and call it Country Music! What a shame!
Was this song done before City Lights?Because it sounds very similar to it. But it's still a great song.(This is the first time I've ever heard this one). I love Ray Price!
Yes, the playing is classic Buddy. The difference in sound has more to do with him playing through a tube amp vs. solid state more than anything else. I love that vintage tube sound. I have a '65 Fender Twin Reverb with a 15" JBL that has "that" sound with my '74 Sho~Bud Pro-II. Just wish I could play a tenth as well as Buddy. :)
Where would REAL country music have ended up if it weren;t for the GREAT! Ray Price?

The steel player in the picture is Mike Cass originally from Minnesota. But, the recording steel player is Buddy Emmons.....

I don't know who said that wasn't Buddy Emmons but it certainly was

That's not Buddy Emmons on steel. I think it's a cat out of Minneapolis.

I think Ray got this song and City Lights mixed up and forgot which one he was singing. It doesn't sound at all like the Hank Thompson composition.

Wow, a answer song to city lights i think, or it corresponds to it. The first ever I've heard Ray speak instead of singing.

One of the best Honky Tonk albums ever made. You can't beat Mr. Price for a great song.

That's nice steel playing, but it doesn't sound like Buddy Emmons to me.

Its an early career "sound" that buddy had but the style and licks seem like Buddy to me. Jimmy Day had a similar sound sometimes.
