  • george had a brilliant career and was a hard slugger but boy was obvious and had a bad boxing technique.watched the ali fight earlier,he was terrible

  • That was sad to watch Cooney laying there for that long, looked like he was dead there, Foreman never lost his killer instinct, as soon he realized Cooney was in trouble he went for the kill.

  • there s only one punching preacher this man is a legend

  • One of my favourite knock outs of all time

  • Foreman said Cooney was the hardest puncher he ever fought, Ron Lyle and Cleveland Williams comes next. Though Foreman never fought Williams, but Foreman sparred Williams before so he know.

  • Wow ! I didn't know these two faught.

  • who wins smokin joe in his prime or rocky, no doubt about it, maricano by knockout

  • @huntersingle:

Only if you give Marciano 3 feet of lead pipe

  • Comment removed

  • you are right. I was thinking of ezzard charles.

  • this is why i love to watch marciano knocking out all the brothers they put in fron of him, only marciano would have knocked cooney out with less punches like he did rex lane ONE OVERHAND RIGHT

  • @huntersingle Foreman's trainer went the distance with Marciano.

  • @mixmastermeeks Foremans trainer(archie moore) got knocked out by marciano in the 9th round......so yeah your just a tad misinformed....and if for whatever reason you dont believe me you can easily look it up or watch the fight yourself.

  • @huntersingle:

Marciano wouldn't even be a heavyweight today. He only weighed 184 lbs. That's 6 lbs less than the cruiserweight limit. He'd have been a cruiserweight, not a heavyweight. He'd have cleaned up against today's cruiserweights.

  • @tw69hands2 that makes him more awesome since all those brothers that tried their black hardest to kick his ass, jersey joe, charles, moore, couldnt get it done. and so what if todays top heavyweights could, thats not the point. he still has the second or third highest knockout percentage of heavyweight, cruiserweight, must break your heart huh

  • @huntersingle No fighter is invincible, including Marciano and mayweather for example. So you look at what styles would trouble a brawler like marciano. for example, dropped against moore and walcott.so maybe heavy hitter like tyson or foreman or nearly outboxed by walcott and couldn't take out charles in 1st fight so maybe out fighter like holmes, ali or lewis/vitali

  • @huntersingle :

You can say what you want. Marciano is too light to be a true heavyweight...And too slow for post-modern boxers period.

  • @tw69hands2 you are just a hater, too slow ha, double left hooks killed kid mathews, one sizzling right hand to walcot and lane, he did look slow against moore and thats why he called it quits. i like frazier too but if joe couldnt keep quarry down how in the hell could he keep rocky down without getting slammed i dissagree frazier comes in winging bobbing adn missing alot but rocky would be hard to hit, too slow you're crazy, how can a slow punch almost be-head someone get outta here

  • Talking about being knocked off you feet...

  • Foreman BEAT thadass!

  • Listen to the conversation between Cooney and the ref @ 7:30

ref: how do you feel? You ok?

    Cooney: nods yeah

    ref: you sure??

    Cooney: Yeah!

    ref: allright

    5 seconds later he's ko'd and unconcious

  • 64 wins 60 by KO Cooney was nuts to get in the ring. I wonder how much he made and took home besides a big ole headache

  • It's funny how when Cooney hits Foreman with the low blow at 7:00, Cooney looks over at the ref to see if he noticed. (He didn't)

  • Great fight with 2 great fighters

  • Haha its funny how george just walks to gerry and hits him then turns back to finish him

  • great finish

  • A young tyson may have got lennox with a punch but lennox was a boxer and I doubt a different result..Evander NEVER>>>This man was a warrior and Tyson needed to intimidate later in his career, but Evander has been tko because HE STOPPED..HE WAS NEVER STOPPED AND WOULD HAVE BEAT TYSON ANYWAY...

  • Why did it take 24 fights with 22 ko's for Foreman to get a title shot without metioning his other 45 wins, was there any reason for this other than people avoiding him !!!!!

  • FLUKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "George said I am not going to waste any energy, walking over to that corner"...lol

  • jerry cooney says now that ALCOHOL was the reason for his poor performances in the ring! few people knew he had a major problem with alcohol throughout his boxing career!

  • Cooney was never as good a fighter as Foreman. If you'd matched them up ten years earlier the KO would have come even quicker. Cooney had a great left hook but, as one trainer said, "his right hand is only good for shooing away flies." Foreman had a lethal punch from the left or the right. Only truly skilled fighters---namely Mohammed Ali and Jimmy Young---ever put Foreman hard on the canvas.

  • @JackKangaroo1 Only one skilled fighter I would say (Ali). Foreman was unprepared against Jimmy Young and his heart was moving away from boxing anyway. Remember shortly after the Jimmy Young fight he retired and became a minister until his comeback 10 years later.

  • @danning1 I remember watching the Foreman/ Young fight live. Don't sell Jimmy Young short. He was a very skilled heavyweight and gave Foreman a boxing lesson that day that, yes, did send him into retirement. But unless you knew him personally and really well I think it's a bit presumptuous to claim you know what was in Foreman's heart at the time. I think his confidence took a hit when Ali whooped his ass in Zaire. By the way, his retirement began in the mid-1970s and lasted about 20 years.

  • @JackKangaroo1 ron lyle knocked foreman down he was a bruiser not a skilled fighter

  • @huntersingle I'd say Foreman was both a bruiser and a skilled fighter, only his skill level as a technical boxer was not equal to that of Ali or Jimmy Young. If you watch old tapes of Foreman fights you'll see that he had very fast hands for a guy his size and he landed a high percentage of his punches. And when you're a bruiser with the power Foreman had, that's all you really need to win.

  • This wasn't a TKO victory, as in technical knockout. This was a TKO victory as in Total Knockout.

  • Holy shit.... that left George threw at 7:13 ish. Pure art. And the sound it made, like Cooney has a hollow head lol.

  • @urnot4me69 Would you lol if it hit your head you stupid twat.

  • @Maxshard What? Go troll elsewhere, fool. And yes, I would lol at you.

  • Is Cooney the tallest fighter George ever faced? Anyone know?

  • Mike Tyson was the REASON George Foreman got back into boxing....Foreman was the color commentator when Tyson won the championship from Trevor Berbick....Foreman knew Tyson style of just walking in and throwing bombs was perfect for him. From the beginning he was always dying to get Tyson in the ring with him.

  • No disgrace being knocked out by George Foreman, one of the hardest punchers of all time. Cooney had a very good left hook, but he could not take a good punch.

  • Shame none of Foreman's sons went into Boxing, not saying they

would have done the same as thier dad,but who knows

  • George Jr (one of them...lol) actually turned pro in 2009, and is currently 13-0 with all but one of them being a KO! He just had a fight in july :)

  • @CoronaJoe Wow!! glad i was wrong on that one.Mabye the Heavyweight division

    has some hope after all!

  • Que Pegada Cabrona!!!

  • @KajHags tyson lost to a lot of fighters less capable then foreman. Foremans ko record is impressive and he has a way better chin. Foreman prime would eaten tyson alive. He would walked into a jab of foreman just like he did against lewis ;-)

  • @KajHags foreman has a much better chin and was in his 40's when hewon another belt. 1968 olympic champion and more then 2o years later world champioen! Tysons career was like 4 years and after that he lost from almost everyone

  • Comment removed

  • George Foreman is probably the most respected boxer in history! No one could achieve anything close to his success.

  • I remember this fight- I watched it in the morning just before I went to school. I was 14, and George became god that day,he,he

  • For someone to think Tyson would not have gotten Foreman out of there at least within four, are smoking crack! Cooney wobbled Foreman with just two hits...Tyson would have landed multiple bombs for us to see Foreman fall like a tree.

  • @derocdero tyson didn't want to fight him because if he would have won he would have won from an old man but if foreman ko'd him his career would be ruined

  • @derocdero

Cooney was a very hard hitter though.

  • @TommyGun7111 True, but my point exactly, Tyson was twice a puncher. Foreman vs Tyson, Foreman knocked out within 4.

  • @derocdero

i would hardly say tyson is twice a puncher then cooney is. theres' just no way to measure that. he's 3 times the fighter though.

I don't think Foreman gets KO'd by Tyson in 4 rounds, but its very possible

  • @derocdero

and Foreman wasn't really rocked as much as he was off balence.

Cooney caught him with a short left hook and george was off balence.

  • @TommyGun7111 Balance

  • @KajHags EXACTLY!!! Mike Tyson was just too fast and too smart...

  • @derocdero tyson lost from douglas and he was just fighting for a couple of years! It wasnt even a lucky shor but douglas was dominating the entire fight. George has a better chin, could knock him out with a single punch and had a great jab so its not true that tyson would win. Foremans record when he fought cooney was 64 wins and just 2 defeats!60 knockouts!!! He fought all the greats and who did tyson fought? He lost allmost every big match in his carreer

  • Damn, Foreman dropped a grenade on Cooney's ass!!!

  • Well Cooney was an easy target, not good against a hard puncher.

  • Cooney was a good fighter who came up short against the cream of the crop of the Heavyweight division.

  • shit look at george take every one of those punches

  • @fuckitsmike That's his fighting style.

    Very spectacular.

Foreman has the chin to take every punch

  • you cant fight george foreman like that toe to toe u gotto move from side to side & back n forth.

  • big Tyson Fan but George would beat Tyson if they ever fought Tyson style is perfect for Foreman

abit like rock paper scissors in how rock beats scissors, paper beats rock etc

  • you are right.tyson couldn't have KO d Big george and nobody can take big george's punches.NOBODY.Big george is for me the best heavyweight of all times with a terrifying punching power

  • Hey man check out Foreman vs Lyle someday. That was a fight. No finesse no boxing fancy just bombs away. The man who ran out of steam first lost.

  • @africaunity1 How can you rate George above Ali?

  • @africaunity1 Ali took foreman' s best punches

  • @johannsebastienbach

Well he was in a shell for most of Foreman's on the rope combos.

  • maan foreman looks like hes walking in the beach when he throws those bombs

  • this old foreman would destroy prime tyson any day in the week..

  • Down goes Cooney!!!

  • foreman is a machine wich repeat is movement untill you fall on the floor: BIM! BIM! BIM!

  • Cooney really had t he face of a retard after Foreman got thru with him. Image what the Rock would look like after Foreman>?

  • cooney has face of fucking retard lol

  • foreman would destroy any tyson

  • AGREED

  • Based on what?...fighting Frazier?

Alex Stewart tore Foreman's face to shreds....

Tyson wiped him out in 1 round...

  • and ? it is because foreman was slow, and steward ran as a coward, and old man holyfield destroyed tyson 2 times, prime holyfield won oldman foreman for points.

    Your theory is stupid.

the style of tyson was perfect for foreman.

holyfield said that foreman was harder puncher than tyson.

  • alex stewart lost to foreman and moorer which foreman knocked out, and holyfield and holyfield couldnt knock foreman out

  • gotta love the sneaky right hand-left uppercut thing he does at 7:14! Very awkward looking but it got the job done!

  • That was more of Lightnning Punch!! It must have sent Cooney to the Himalaya Mountains and from there he must have encountered Buddha for some guidance.lol hahahahaha

  • damn..that was a brutal knockout

  • WHAT AN UPPERCUT.

  • Wow! Tyson vs this Foreman who had a granite chin would have been interesting.

  • MIKE TYSON VS GEORGE FOREMAN?????

  • Foreman said Morrison was the hardest Puncher he ever fought.

  • most top heavy weights agree the hardest ever puncher was Ernie shavers, now lives in Liverpool

  • foreman woud win cuz the only thing that was missing for shavers is a CHIN if u wanne be champ and atg u need a good CHIN

  • I wasn't saying who would win between them, merely saying that lots of top men all say Ernie shavers is the hardest hitting, end of.

  • No actually he says consistently that Ron Lyle was the hardest puncher he had ever been in the ring with.

  • what year was this??

  • 1990

  • That last big hook, George looks surprised he was still up

  • I remember watching this fight. It was sad. Still is.

  • dat foreman can sure hit!

  • Cooney, the "Great White Dope." His own people fooled him by buildin' him up on a steady diet of wins over bums and old washed up guys.

  • Fooled? He was handled beautifully and was allowed to get hyped up to the point that he made millions of dollars.

What were they supposed to do let him get his brains beat in with no title shot?

  • Well, based on from what I saw in interviews, etc., my impression of Cooney, himself, was that he perceived himself to be a legitimate contender. Forget the handlers and money people who were using him the right way to milk the system as much as possible, which they did very well. But, maybe Cooney knew it, too. I'm just throwin' out conjecture.

  • What is wrong with the guy having confidence?

So the proper way to handle a fighter is to let him get his brains before he makes any money and make sure he has no confidence in his own ability?

He made millions because he was handled properly. It didn't hurt that he was white obviously and that was a part of the marketing as well.

Bottom line is that cooney didn't end up broke and brain dead but instead made a lot of money and except for 3 fights took few punches.

  • Nothing wrong with having confidence. I would say he did. And I would say you're right that he was handled properly in the sense of protecting him & making lots of dough; but my point was that there was a downfall to this approach because when he stepped in with a good strong heavyweight like Larry Holmes, he was simply outclassed & embarrassed. He looked like an awkward amateur in the ring with Holmes. But yeah, he was the great white hope who played it smart & made a lot of dough, all the same

  • but cooney was a bum right? He is not comparable with the large man of today like wladimir klitschko.

  • was far from a bum m8 box larry homes and ken norton

  • George Foreman= King of boxing.

  • boxing and 360 grills?

  • @kukkujakuu no muhammid ali

  • Aaaaaaawesome match!

  • A least Cooney had the balls to face Big George unlike Mike "the mouth" Tyson. Tyson-Foreman fight was out there for a Big Pay-per-view. Obviously, Mike was afraid of George. He saw what George did to Frazier!!!

  • @historyjoe2011 no way tyson could have had a chance against foreman. Tyson wont hurt Foreman, Actually cooney might have punched harder than foreman in this fight but he doesnt know how to box. Problem is foreman doesnt go down unless he is tired

  • @historyjoe2011 Mike Tyson? Scared? HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

  • @historyjoe2011 - Mike is so used to being intimidating that he can't face an opponent who can fight back for real. To me, Mike has no real courage... He is more like a bully..

  • @historyjoe2011 Its always funny when people make up nicknames. Go you! However Mike Tyson would've knocked old George on the ground and he would've been counted out. You can talk about Foreman like he's a godlike figure all you want but its pretty stupid to think an old man EVEN AND OLD GEORGE FOREman would beat a well conditioned/trained Tyson. BUT OH SHIT TYSON GOT BEAT BY LITTLE OLE DOUGLAS. The boxing community makes me want to murder every boxing fan i see.

  • @historyjoe2011 for crying out loud...Mike Tyson did some really bad things but he was fearless

  • @dogeban, Tyson was fearless? Why not accept a bout with an old, fat Foreman then? No doubt you'll tell me that Tyson would have won easily, it wouldn't have been close etc. So why did Tyson turn down the biggest pay day in boxing history? D'Amato, years before, had warned Tyson to avoid Foreman if he came back, stating that no short puncher would stand a chance against him. Tyson took heed. As for the rest of the fearless stuff, Lewis had Tyson shaking like a shitting dog, as did Holyfield.

  • @iljn1988 you are right I guess...I did some research. I was not informed :) but I would still disagree about Lewis - Tyson was 35 back then and had serious knees trouble, he was not himself - and Holyfield too..Tyson at his prime would have be victorious against those two, I believe. He was untouchable for 5 years. But I take back what I said about Foreman

  • Untouchable, because he was fighting guys with records like 11-18 (literally, go look it up), fighters who had already been knocked out in the first by other fighters.....typical fodder for an up and coming heavyweight. Once he fought real opponents, he lost.

Any version of Foreman would have easily defeated Tyson.

  • @iljn1988 how do you know this?

  • @noskoollikeoldskool, Tyson has talked openly about it. There are videos of D'Amato discussing former Heavyweight champions, too. Foreman was beatable, but not by a Tyson-esque fighter. It would have been a massacre, hence why Tyson clearly didn't fancy the idea of fighting Foreman, even if it was an old and slow version.

  • @historyjoe2011 Who wouldn't be scared of Big George?

  • @MeAndMyFamily1992 64 fights 60 KO's and one of the best named punches ,the "Anywhere Punch" any where I hit it's gonna hurt LOL

  • a real gladiator pity they dont make em like that anymore

  • Gerry Paperfighter Cooney.

  • thats what you call 2 heavyweights

  • What a fuckin beast!

  • Dude, boxing is SO much more lethal than MMA

  • back in the day wen boxin was gud...stupid gay refs now-a-days

  • guy looks like kramer...

  • lol

  • KNOCK;EM OUT BIG GEORGE!!!

  • 253 pounds he wasnt in shape then

  • what a knockout at the end *bang* bang* get down you stupid fuck im fat your not! lllooooooooooooooooooooolllllll!!!!
