a good song is not judged by the accent as music doesn't stop at country borders. A good song is sung by one who can sing with passion about the theme and I think you did a very nice job here.
I don't like American accents singing Irish songs, it just doesn't sound right. Same with English accents so yanks shouldn't feel singled out. The way you sing this is very very good though. Maith on buachaill.
How can Irish music not make anyone happy?? My mum's Irish, so i'm only half Irish, but still, I feel so proud to even say I have HALF of that beautiful countries blood in me.
Hey if your great grandparents are from Irish familes you have Irish in you. I have Irish in me from my Mothers great great grandmothers side but anyway great song.
Love this song. Heard it at an Irish Rovers concert some years ago. Just got an urge to look it up on youtube and found your version. You do the song justice, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting. 1/4 Irish myself (grandpa emigrated in the 19teens), hope to get there someday.
It's beautiful and incredibly soulful and the accent certainly doesn't sound fake. I'm first generation immigrant and so have understanding of importance of roots. They're not based on physical territory are they? They come from true wisdom like this song, whatever it means :-)
Jim ...I loved your version of The Rising of the Moon. Tis my "party piece" when Ive had a few "jars".( People pay me to shut up!) Ive subcribed to your site, so looking forward to hearing more songs from you. Another of my favourites is Cliffs of Duneen ? Do you know it? Christy Moore sings a great version of it ! Found you by chance .. clicked on one site which led to another which led to another and so on and so forth ! Slainte agus Tainte dhuit (Health and wealth to you) Carmel from Cork
Nope, I think he means that it's great to be from a country (small & all as it is) that has such a living culture. Few enough other 'western' societies can keep their trad music & dance so vibrant & relevant. Anyway, I think it's a sweet job...from a small (partisan!) irish person! Keep up the good work jimski!
Gotta love the classic Irish folk tunes. I'm with you on that one, Jim. So sorry it's taken me so long to check this one out. As always, I love it. Hope all's well with you. Peace
well the audio and video were recorded simultaneously but I use a digital camera for the video and a Digital Multi track for the audio then i try to sync it as best i can...but this vid was dark so i really couldnt see that well

Is this an example of paradox: How great is it to be small.
