@Nebrox thats what i thought. However this torpedo is DIFFERENT. It creates a massive AIR-POCKET under the ship. This AIR-POCKET first raises the ship witch to a Nimitz would not raise it very much. However thats not the problem. The problem is the GRAVITY drops the middle of the ship into the AIR-POCKET. Thus the WEIGHT of the ships middle falling faster into the air pocket then each of its ENDs cripples the ship. Even if not sunk the structural damage is shocking.

Devastating and quite impressive, kinda makes surface vessels obsolete. Done on an Aussie decommissioned destroyer mainly to demonstrate what the US can do, where China, the next naval superpower, could see it best. The Chinese will think twice when they put their ships where the US can see them.

From what I gather, torpedoes explode a couple of meters below the ship, filling the water with air, making it is less buoyant, which makes the ship crack in the middle (imagine carrying such a big thing, not supporting it in the middle - would crack, right?), so I guess we see 1) the explosion of the torpedo and 2) the boat cracking and 3) the shockwave of the torpedo sending water and smoke through the ship

This is an Australian type 12 frigate. I think HMAS Parramatta. It was sunk as part of a test by the sub HMAS Collins. The Collins subs re based on the Sweedish Naken class. The Perth class destroyers are gone, the Adelaide class all but gone, we just have some slow conventional boats and a handfull of weakly armed Anzac (Meeko copy) frigates with only a point defence capability. There are no F111 to defend the moat, only F18 with enough range to defend their own airstip. Welcome Indonesia.

@LeBronForTheWin Nope, we left it there. It now forms part of an artificial reef. All fuel bunkers and lines are emptied and cleaned before sinking so there is no pollution. We did the same to HMAS Brisbane on the east coast, but without the torpedo.
