@abojeff, @Varahilo if u've installed the new SDK, you'll find a notepad titled "adb_has_moved" under \android\tools. Just read the instructions (you simply need to run the SDK manager, expand "Tools", check "Android SDK Platform-tools" --> click "Install package" and there you go!)
Under CMD you'll need to type C:\android\platform-tools\ which'll fetch the correct directory
I have htc wildfire s...I did all the steps but in the command prompt when I type adb devices the only feedback that I receive it "List of devices attached" What else I can do to proceed? Also I installed HTC Sync byt it don't recognice my phone :/ ANY IDEAS WHAT TO DO???? :(
you need to go into the sdk manager and download the Android SDK Platform-tools (if you secrch adb it comes up with a text file that tells you whut to do ) hope this helps
@hawkem90 i just done it, everything when as in video but use this line "pm setInstallLocation 2". not "set pmInstallLocation 2" credit to "chinyen95"
for those who cant get it even though u have gone through every step correctly, it's bcoz u are using the latest version of android sdk. The older version works for me, but the new one don't.
Managed to get all the way through the comand prompt properly, but cant seem to move apps for example Facebook on to my sd card , could it be because the sd card is full ?
when i click "move to sd card" i click it and it says failed move or something like that.. can u help? its for normal apps that normally work, it jus isnt working for me though

thank you very much worked on updated htc desire with android 2.2.3.just make sure htc sync is installed and is not open during the process.and if it does not work then open the sdk manager and let it do its thing while you type in command promp
For those where the adb devices isnt found, i had the same problem. Turns out you need to download HTC sync on your pc and when you connect your android device to your pc you need to chose htc sync on the android device! Worked like a charm. Great video.
hi, i went through all your steps properly. Im running on Android Gingerbread 2.3. I downloaded asphalt 6(btw, asphalt 6 isnt on the android market, u have to get it frm gameoft.com) on my phone's sd card(not installed) and I use ASTRO(app) to view all the files on my sd card like i do on a computer, i install the game from there onto my phone(Sony Ericsson Xperia Active), when i open it, it says i need to clear 300mb, when i go to settings to move it to SD card, i cant, what shld i do? PLS HELP
For those of you who can get as far as the 'adb shell' part, in the video is instructs you to type set pmInstallLocation 2 Some you you may get 'permission denied'. If this happens try typing pm setInstallLocation 2
After a lot of time i managed to make this work. This guy`s comment helped me out.
@PermT No worries dude. I managed to get it working using just the one command:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

But now every app that i put on the SD decreased in memoryspace. Some apps even changed from 12MB on the phone to 300KB on the SD. They work though. But is this okay? Did something go wrong? could somebody explain this?

HI! I have an LG Optimus S, and I did everything, but instead of getting the number starting with H, I get a number with A and I still did everything but nothing happened, after I reboot my phone I still can't move the apps. I only have 200 mb internal memory and its full since the first day, the apps I have there now I can't move trough manage applications. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help :)
@msharma97 Buddy,,I reckon this just a good way of managing your apps better . I have gone through the full procedure successfully on my ZTE Blade/ Dell XCD 35 but then it just doesn't resolve the real problem. For instance, if you install an app like Tswipe-pro keyboard, all of it would remain on your internal memory without giving you an option to move it to SD. I wish I could save it on my SD card instead of where the app developer wants me to save it at..any comments??
Nice, though I would recommend setting it back to default after freeing up space, just in case, I read that some apps have trouble installing directly to the SD in some peoples cases. To do this instead of setting it to 2, just set it to 0. But thanks for the tutorial, was looking for something like this.
I have the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G running Froyo 2.2.1. I followed your procedure and yet the option to move system apps to the SD Card is greyed out. I guess this is not a universal fix?
I watched your video on force all apps to sd card froyo. I got far as the cmd prompt cd C:\android\tools clicked enter then it said C:\android\tools i typed adb devices it says adb is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file. Hi i've followed the instructions, my device is connetced (typed 'adb devices and it is definitely attached).
Typed in the command to set the install location, and everything seems to have worked fine. However, when going into manage applications on my phone, everything is exactly the same ! I can't move anything !
i have a problem .. apps do get installed on SD card .. when i open them they have the move to phone option up there which means that they are on the SD card .. but still when i install new apps, the phone memory gets filled up and when i uninstall them, the phone memory increases ... what to do ?
appologies ... .u r gr8 ... i did the steps again and got it to work .. i can move apps to the sd card now ... thax .. appologies for the comments earlier ...
fuck ... i did the same thing .... the commands executed as well .. but it is still instlaling stuff in the phone memory ... hoax , i am sick of ppl showing off things that is not right

@kerryanthon I have 1 of those. Im currently trying it right now because I found the LotR ebook and it won't install because it says my space is to low even though I have 2.5g left. Damn faulty programming.
@BONEZWRBABYBRIAN Just a note: This will void any warranty. The idea of this was for NON-ROOT users. And take a chill pill mate. U dont need to swear.

If you have “error: more than one device and emulator”
you want to use your Model number and insert it into the command:
EX: abd –s M123abc456d7ef8 shell
If you get “permission denied”
They had a couple of different versions of the set Install Location info
pm setIntallLocation 2
set pmsetInstallLocation 2 –This is the one that worked for me.
I hope that helps anyone who may need it.

Hi i've followed the instructions, my device is connetced (typed 'adb devices and it is definitely attached).
Typed in the command to set the install location, and everything seems to have worked fine. However, when going into manage applications on my phone, everything is exactly the same ! I can't move anything !
Can u help ?

@PermT No worries dude. I managed to get it working using just the one command:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

kerryanthon 11 months ago
@kerryanthon I have 1 of those. Im currently trying it right now because I found the LotR ebook and it won't install because it says my space is to low even though I have 2.5g left. Damn faulty programming.
Godzilla2K7 10 months ago
@kerryanthon if its is on 2.2, i would guess so. PLS NOTE THE ADB POSITION HAS CHANGED

@BONEZWRBABYBRIAN Just a note: This will void any warranty. The idea of this was for NON-ROOT users. And take a chill pill mate. U dont need to swear.
