I am so glad I found this clip, thank you NorwegicusTheThird. I was working at Lancaster Northampton when this was filmed. To see our staff who took part in the filming. A quick glance of Rob walking away from the car after driving it out of the show room. Philipa who calls Mr Hunt into the showroom for his phone call and Nigel R. seen pointing something out to Mr Hunt when he was taking the phone call. The BBC invited us to Shepards Bush to be part of the audience for the laughter-oh memories.
Hyacinth raises pretentiousness to an excessive degree to show us how silly it is and how much it hurts her family whom she looks down on but are better people than she is herself.
Feel sorry for Richard!!! Hyacinth bullied him into it and he'll be blamed...she shouldn't get him into trouble like that. She has no judgment...no sense.
At 5:17, Hyacinth spells her surname as b-o-u-q-u-e-t, which is wrong! It is spelt b-u-c-k-e-t, which is the whole point of the "bucket pronounced bouquet" joke!
@GrahamLondonUK Exactly. Except it would never work for someone like her who always has to be the center of attention and known by everyone! The most general description of her would bring every neighbor in a ten mile radius running in to identify her and lock her away from them for as long as possible! lol
@osogoodgirl Yes, but Hyacinth wants only her personally approved type of attention, such as from the vicar, the major or Mr & Mrs Barker-Finch. Hyacinth believes that the only person the police should be interested in is Onslow!
@osogoodgirl From 4:54, I admire Onslow's concern for Hyacinth and Richard when they are apprehended by police, he drags Daisy and Rose back into the hotel for another cup of coffee!
" Comedy" aspect there is a selfish Hyacinth who dominates her long-suffering husband and is ashamed of the BETTER sisters who take care of their father, and put up with his geriatric problems. I dont think this series was filmed as a comedy complete. I think its a wake-up call for superficial people and an hommage to those who are the caring ones and dont give a damn about who says what.
I think it WAS simply filmed as a comedy, considering who the writers and producer are. But I think it became a very insightful social critique and on that point I agree with you completely.
However, we have to agree to disagree as I think only a personal interview with Roy Clarke would clarify whether or not he intended it to be a stab at the pretentious middle class.
too bad the nobs wouldn\t watch this working class show--it shd be salutory

This is British class snobbery at its highest absurdity. It's bad enough when the nobs do it, but a middle class person putting on airs!

Hell mend Richard for continually obeying his vile, ignorant, foolish and blind wife who always seeks to impress people who couldn't care less.

@GrahamLondonUK Well if you spell it a different way then the police may end up looking for someone else!

" Comedy" aspect there is a selfish Hyacinth who dominates her long-suffering husband and is ashamed of the BETTER sisters who take care of their father, and put up with his geriatric problems.
