@bushbarnes Its not only the fact that they kill the seals, the method is incredibly cruel and it is for fur. It is disgusting. If there was a method that was less cruel and only used by those that genuinely need fur (i.e. not for fashion but warmth) then I am sure it would not require an annual cull and less people would be so annoyed. I would also like to point out that the cows are not clubbed to death. Perhaps try educating yourself before leaving such a comment.

The age seals are clubbed and shot at (21 days to 60 days = 95% of all seals killed in 2007) is the equivalent in human age of 5.5 to 9 weeks old (considering Harp Seals should live 30 years).

I say they ARE baby seals and so does the civilised world!

As for Sealers comments about seal population and cod:

There used to be 40 to 50 million seals before you started killing them AND there were plenty of fish before you and the mismanagement of the DFO wiped out the COD and other fish stocks!

I'm not for putting anyone out of work or for taking away someone's livelihood. I'm just against causing suffering to another living being. I don't wear, buy, consumer, or use animal products of any kind. I'd like everyone to live that way, too, but that's up to each individual. I lived in the North when logging was prohibited. We didn't resort to live trapping. We created our own jobs and business. We started growing blueberries and growing cedar for the flower industry. Another opened a small gravel pit. Another brought the tool and die's from the mills and started his own tool and die company and got orders as far as Virginia.
